From the AAS today:

They're putting the "Memorial" back in Royal-Memorial Stadium today with a recommissioning ceremony at the Veterans Plaza at the northwest corner of the stadium.

The plaza contains plaques and other memorials honoring veterans for military service going back to World War I, for whom the stadium was originally dedicated in 1924.

Before Saturday's game, the Strike Fighter Squadron 204 from New Orleans will fly over the stadium in FA-18A+ jets.

If you go to the game, expect a little noise during the National Anthem.

Dub, are they not displaying the plaque in the stands like it was before the expansion?

patch - I don't remember seeing it. I sit in the upper deck. I haven't been to the north endzone since I was a student (BC).

BTW, it is my memory that it was orignally commissioned as a memorial for all veterans from the State of Texas - not just from UT.

wa - The jets usually fly over during the National Anthem, and I was just warning people. The only time I jumped was when the large Stealth bomber buzzed us - I thought he was going to land on the 50 yardline.

hmmm, most are done at the end of it as not to go during it, but every place does it different I guess.

A&M has flyovers almost every game and it's always timed to hit at the very end or just after, sometimes it hits slightly before the ending, but it's not planned that way...

the ones this year have been VERY loud, but I love them.

wa - I think you're correct. If you had originally said "right after", I probably wouldn't have disagreed. At TMS, the noise usually starts right at the end of the Anthem.

They originally took it out because "Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium at Joe Jamail Field" wouldn't fit on the stationary.

Come on threeyards, lighten up. I think the best thing they could have done to honor those brave soliders would be to have kept it as "memorial stadium" and not lump Darrell and Joe in there with them.

did you even read the article - and the fact that the "Memorial" part of the name of this stadium is now being recognized, in a celebratory fashion this week now that our construction is done and the Memorial improved on, moved and ready to reopen?

bad bull, 3+. you obviously don't know much about A&M's campus, from the MSC to many other places on campus we memorialize veterans from ALL wars. There was just a monument dedicated a few weeks ago regarding those lost to terrorism, our SEVEN Medal of Honor winners in the MSC, the WWI Memorial on West Campus and so much more.

Good news about your stadium, but to infer that A&M has no clue about honoring their War Veterans is just plain ignorant.

I believe that I said your STADIUM memorializes nothing, if anyone on here would be cracking on you all for having a celebration after you updated your MSC, I would have been equally as critical.

This thing was built for Texans (all of them, not just our Students) that have been killed in action (at first just for WW1 veterans, now to include all foreign wars).

You want to straighten someone out on this, start with the dewsh above that thinks this is somehow funny.
