When the wind blows from a certain direction (south, if I remember correctly), you can definitely get a whiff of cowsheit.

As with all things Tech on this website, it is grossly exaggerated.

It's a hell of a lot more than a whiff. The direction is from the east.

yes, it smells gawd awful, but not as bad as the surrounding cities.

The wind has to be blowing from the SE, which is pretty rare. And even then it only smells like it downtown and to a lesser extent around campus.

But when driving in on 84 before the loop you go right by the cattle yards and it smells like a nice concoction of piss and ****.

Winds from the SE (yes, rare) will bring in cattle feed lot smells. Not too bad. Winds from the NE (rarer) will bring in commercial pig lot smells. Pig smells make it to the campus very seldom but those are the ones that will send most people running for cover.

Like most towns with 'pungent' industry, many locals breathe it in with a content smile knowing it is the smell of money.

I guess I must have picked the times that the winds "shifted" because I've been to Lubbock twice in my life and both times the aroma of cow crap and pig sheeeet filled the air. I guess the smell of "money" differs out there.

Tech fans love the smell of cow sheeet in the morning. It smells like...victory....over us.

It's not that bad, really. It happens about 1 or 2 days out of the month, if I remember correctly.

The last time I drove through Lubbock it smelled like yeast infection and penicillian.

How is it you are familiar with that scent?

Actually, it is kind of funny to hear people from A&M, a school that used to be synonymous with the agrarian life, ridiculing the smell of bovine excrement. I guess it's the effect of too many students from Dallas, Houston and Austin. College Station being such a cosmopolitan venue these days.

I'm sorry College Station isn't cosmopolitan enough for you huisache. I hear they cling to guns and religion there.

Lubbock gets the feed lot smells occassionly, but some of the other towns in the panhandle are overwhelming. I am surprised the cows don't pass out over from the smell.

I wasn't complaining about CS not being cosmopolitan enough. In fact, I find it a far cry from the place where I used to weekend with friends in the 60s. My point is that Lubbock is a big farm and ranch town with a college. The feedlots smell some.

What is it with Aggies (that is derived from Agriculture, which used to be one of the main preoccupations at A&M) looking down on something as primary as cow patties?

A&M is no longer a rural cow college but rather just another real big state university, largely populated by snotty city kids.

Like the school in Austin which I attended.

I find it comical that people from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical are complaining about the smell from an Agricultural product.

Texas was built on Cattle and Oil, if you can't stand the smell of either you should probably tuck your balls under and move to the northeast.

two guys from Houston can't understand why we find it peculiar that people from a school that was founded on agriculture condescend towards a necessary ag product.

Kind of makes our point.

If you grow up around cattle, it smells like money.

It just takes a special kind of ignorant to be from Texas A&M and complain about cattle.

So, what's the problem?

So no complaints from you about crabs and STD's.

Exactly.

25 percent of the time is an outright lie. More like 3 times per month, if that.

The smell comes in from Hereford, TX the beef capital of the world. And if you ask the locals there, "it's the smell of money."
Eyeballs

It's not the cattle and oil that you smell in lubbock!
