Here is a speech from the A&M convocation in 1998. It was given by the Chancellor of Cal-Berkley at the time. About 2/3's of the way down it explains alot about the difference in how Texas and California have handled higher education.
Is A&M a better overall university? I would have to say yes.

Is Tech the horrible university some would make it out to be? No.

I am a Tech grad working in a small engineering firm with 5 other engineers (all of whom graduated from A&M and are very respectful). The 'my education is better than yours' garbage has never came up and in a small firm, it's pretty obvious if you are not carrying your own weight. It's all about performance once you get out of school, nothing more or nothing less.

I don't pay much mind to the BBS fodder that gets spewn around here and RP, but what ticks me off is that Texas dropped the ball when it came time to make sure its universities were ready to head into the 21st century. Texas has 2 flagship universities while California has 7 or 8 (I can't remember the exact #). The state govt needs to get off its ass and find more funding for all levels of education.

Maybe they should try something like a lottery.

You obviously overestimate the ability of these kool-aide drinkers to be objective about anything re: Tech or A&M.

No I have a buddy who's an EIT in a 5 person firm with a bunch of A&M grads. He shares the same sentiment about the guys he works with so I thought I would give it a try.

The other stuff pertains to experiences he and I had with my recently deceased grandfather.......ala only he would have understood, sort of a filter for ******bag Bryan lawyers.
