FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. After a hot-shooting first half, it took a resilient second half effort from the No. 11 Texas A&M women's basketball team to get by No. 20 Arkansas, 84-77, at Bud Walton Arena. After going up double figures for much of the first half, the Aggies never trailed when things got close late and held on for their eighth straight win.

Junior guard Chennedy Carter put up 13 points in the first quarter as A&M led by as many as 12 in the opening period. The Aggies kept the difference in double figures for much of the remainder of the first half, taking a 44-32 lead into the halftime break.

It was a big first half for junior forward N'dea Jones who matched her career high in scoring by halftime with 16 points through the first two quarters.

The Aggies were plagued by turnovers to start the third quarter, as Arkansas took advantage and started the second half on a 13-4 scoring spree to get back within three by the media timeout. A&M refused to back down, answering the Razorbacks to keep control of the lead.

Back-and-forth play continued through the third quarter and into the fourth. Arkansas was able to tie things up at 61 with 6:24 to play. Carter responded quickly for the Aggies and junior guard Kayla Wells knocked down a pair of free throws less than a minute later to make it a two-possession game.

An Arkansas layup and a pair of free throws made it a three-point game with 22 seconds to play, but the Razorbacks were forced to foul and A&M was able to hold on for the victory.
