I'm Ross Morel, CEO of Frogslayer and c/o 2010. The best advice I ever got from another Aggie came from my freshman roommate, Michael.
Pretty soon after we met, Michael shared a personal motto -- "anything worth having doesn't come easy." That simple phrase is something we kept repeating to each other throughout our first year together and after -- through challenging courses, relationship troubles, etc. I still repeat it to myself often, especially when faced with difficult decisions.
Fast forward to the week before graduation. I was at a crossroads: should I start my own business or go work for somebody else? I had an offer for a consulting job in Houston with a great salary and benefits. I had many people I trusted telling me to take the guaranteed paycheck. But I just wasn't sure that was right for me. One afternoon, I was walking on campus to contemplate what I should do and found myself at the Bonfire Memorial. Michael met me over there and we started talking through the pros and the cons of my choices. He didn't tell me what to do, but reminded me of the advice from our freshman year: "anything worth having doesn't come easy."
Long story short, I decided starting a business right out of college wouldn't be easy but the process would be worthwhile. It allowed me to meet my wife, Suzy (also an Aggie), and less than two years later, I was able to acquire a company called Frogslayer.
Frogslayer makes it easy for small and growing businesses to integrate custom AI & automation into their day-to-day operations.
We've been headquartered here in College Station for over 21 years, named to the Aggie 100 eight times, and created a junior developer program that's given a lot of A&M CSE students their first experience on real world projects with real clients. Our name certainly has an Aggie nod to "gig 'em" but it's also based on an old quote often credited to Mark Twain: "if the hardest thing you have to do is eat a frog, it's best to eat it first thing in the morning....if you have to eat two frogs then eat the biggest one first." Our name embodies the idea of doing the hard things, not the easy ones.
