Anyone know the best way to go about finding a pension that I was vested in 25-30 years ago and that company was eventually sold roughly 20 years ago? I have contacted HR multiple times at the new company and am getting nowhere.

Contact ERISA. They should be able to help. I had to do this a while back. ERISA is a branch of the DOL that looks after pension "stuff".

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) is a federal law that establishes minimum standards for private sector retirement and health plans. ERISA was enacted in 1974 to protect individuals in these plans.

ERISA requires that plans:
  • Provide participants with information about the plan, including funding and features
  • Set minimum standards for vesting, participation, funding, and benefit accrual
  • Hold plan fiduciaries accountable
  • Establish a grievance and appeals process for participants
  • Allow participants to sue for breaches of fiduciary duty and benefits
  • Guarantee payment of certain benefits if a defined benefit plan is terminated

Thanks. Found their website and filled out their online form to request assistance. I guess I will find out how effective they are.

Try the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp (www.pbgc.gov). They may be able to help.

So i got a call from some sort of representative for erisa to discuss that inquiry i made last week. While I will say she restored my faith in the ineptitude of government workers (she asked questions that made it obvious she didn't read the details on what i had submitted), she eventually stumbled upon a question that got me to the solution. I had to make another call and it took close to an hour with that company. But my account has been located!

Thanks for the Texags assist! I have been wondering where this account was for 20+ years. Not life changing money but it's enough to have some good fun with.
