A few days ago we logged into Amazon and Prime Video and noticed that all our account history, lists, all previous digital purchases which includes hundreds of movies and audiobooks purchased over many years were all gone.

First, we went to normal customer service route and we're given the runaround. Later I reached out to executive customer relations and they emailed us stating that on September 13 at 6:04 AM central standard time they received an account closure request. They said they cannot restore our account and gave us $100 of credit on Amazon prime. We never sent any such account closure request.

I'm incredulous that they cannot restore our account. At a minimum, they should have records of all our purchases. Otherwise, how would they be able to file financial statements, tax returns, or handle an audit? There are two sides to every transaction. The data still has to be there.

Anyone else experience this? What was the outcome?

We had it happen. You're SOL. Once closed they can't re-open. We had to create a new username.

Id be more worried about who accessed my profile and closed it.

I've replied and asked for proof of the request, the IP address it originated from, etc. The data to restore digital purchases *must* to exist just for accounting purposes. Refusing to restore would be their rule and you can break your own rules.

They won't do it without you hiring an Attorney.

Dear Sir or Madam,

**Re: Account Closure and Request for Information**

I am writing to formally demand that Amazon reinstate my Amazon account, which was recently closed without my request or consent. Additionally, I request Amazon provide detailed information regarding the person or entity that requested the closure of my account, including any records of communications or actions that led to this decision.

I have thoroughly reviewed Amazon's User Agreement, which governs the terms of service between Amazon and its users, and I do not find any violation of said agreement on my part that would warrant the unilateral closure of my account. Therefore, I assert that Amazon's action to close my account was unjustified and did not follow the proper procedures outlined within the User Agreement. Specifically, Amazon's policies under the "Account Termination" clause indicate that an account may only be closed under certain conditions. To my knowledge, none of these conditions apply to my situation.

Please note that I have not received any formal notification from Amazon regarding the closure of my account, nor was I provided any reason for this action. Furthermore, I believe I am entitled to full transparency regarding who initiated the request to close my account, as this may involve fraudulent activity or unauthorized access to my personal information.

As per the User Agreement and applicable consumer protection laws, I kindly request that Amazon:

1. Immediately reinstate my account with all previous access restored.
2. Provide a detailed explanation of the circumstances surrounding the closure of my account.
3. Disclose the identity or entities involved in the closure request, including any communication records, if available.

Please treat this letter as a formal demand. I expect a response within 14 days of the date of this letter. Should you fail to comply with these requests within the given time frame, I will consider pursuing further legal action or filing a formal complaint with the appropriate regulatory authorities.

I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this matter.

Sincerely,

that's the way to get someone on the phone though they'll pretty much never be someone able to actually do anything only to document and 'escalate to a specialist' who's supposed to contact you within 2 days but even then 90% of the time it's an generic email with useless unactioned fluff

went through a gauntlet of contacting them nonstop for 2-3wks and kept requesting escalation to higher up teams when Amazon had wrongfully restricted/suspended my account due to being hacked and withholding several hundred in gift card balance, def gave them severe attitude and threatened legal action more than once but eventually got everything restored, told them straight up repeatedly how ridiculous their joke of a customer service system was just a looping cycle of wasting everyone's time and company resources without actually resolving anything
