I'm looking to form an LLC in Texas for a side gig, but am new to the process. Does anyone have any recommendations for an attorney or service in the Austin area that can help guide me through the process?

Extra points if they also offer tax services, assistance with any permitting, etc.

Or, are there any caveats or reasons not to use on online service, such as Legal Zoom, ZenBusiness, etc.?

You can be your own registered agent or use one of the internet ones. I wanted my info private, so I paid to use a service for initial filing with the state. Get your EIN from the IRS. If you don't have employees and aren't making enough to pay franchise taxes, there's really not much else to it.

you still have to file a TX franchise tax return regardless if tax is owed

Yes, and its $50 everytime you forget and its late. Good reminder to update my crib sheet to remember to do this in the spring.

I used zen business for both my llc formations. It was very straight forward and user friendly.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and used ZenBusiness as well.

As said above, make sure you are current every year with your franchise tax filings or you could lose (in the event of a legal action) the limited liability protection for which the LLC is intended.

My wife has registered 4 LLCs over the past 20 years. Most recently it took about 20 minutes on the Texas Secretary of State's webpage for my engineering firm and a similar amount of time for our non-profit.

You do realize that there's a bit more to creating a valid LLC than filling out the info on the Tx SoS website?
