What are people's opinions here about Progressive Snapshot ?

following.. I have progressive and considering signing up

Most people end up savings money past the initial enrollment discount.

Some people do not.

Biggest factors are time of day, hard braking, rate of acceleration from a stop, and the simple amount of driving

Seems most insurance companies have a program like this now. I did with Safeco and it lowered my rate 16 percent

My son signed up for this with USAA and gets a 20% discount and he is better driver now because it.

If Progressive knew my wife's driving habits, they would drop us!

We ended up getting a very tiny discount, but given the car I drove had the top score/grade, I have driving immunity when with the family as I get to refer to everyone's grades, so that was worth it.



The crazy part of it, I started running more yellow to red lights because if I would brake slightly hard, I would get dinged, so I quit braking.

Is there not an amzn knockoff plugin for these devices yet?

Had for a while. You would have to be the MOST cautious driver on the road to not get dinged. I couldn't do it. I'd rather pay more money.

I wouldn't want any type of monitoring device in my truck. Plus, I drive 40,000 miles a year. I don't want my insurance company knowing that, as they might use that as an excuse to raise my rates.

I did it once and regretted it almost immediately. I drive very little, almost never too late and am pretty good about acceleration/braking. Yet, our premiums barely went down. You also get dinged for being safe in certain situations...like hitting your breaks when someone pulls out in front of you, running through yellow lights rather than applying brakes hard to stop, etc. And the whole big brother thing... Definitely not worth it imo.

How long do you have to be tracked for insco to determine your discount?

There's no way I'd allow another monitoring device in my vehicle. My phone is already harvesting all my data, I'd pay to NOT have another company watching me

I did it 9-10 years ago and it worked out well. I saved probably 35% off my premium. I drove like a grandma for 4-6 months (whatever the required time was). The biggest change to my driving habit was leaving plenty of space so I didn't need to hard break. My premium remained lower than competitors for awhile. I ended up switching when I got married. My wife had USAA and our premium was comparable with both companies.
