anyone buy 2 year Treasuries on a personal brokerage?

if so which ETF is the best one for long term capital appreciation- or at least not losing your principal.

SGOV = avg 0.10yr duration
VGSH = avg 1.89yr duration
VGIT = avg 5.20yr duration
VGLT = avg 16.24yr duration

To answer your other question - no I don't buy treasuries for capital appreciation. That's what stocks are for.

You will have trouble keeping ahead of inflation using 2 year Treasuries as a long term hold.

I went into the Fidelity Brokerage and all of these bond and treasury funds are rated pretty poorly

not sure it makes sense to really jump in as a small fish when really it is the big Hedge Funds that are playing FOREX and bond funds

I would just buy them on TreasuryDirect.

psychologically I don't like having tons of different small investments scattered all over the place- I already have 3 separate corporate 401Ks so when it comes to my private investing I like to see everything on my Fidelity dashboard.

You can link it in. Go to "Accounts & Trade" link. Select "Full View".

That is Fidelity's aggregate portal solution. It's similar to Personal Capital, if you will, although not as nice looking. Does the job though.

Just buy the 2yr treasury in the secondary market on Fidelity. That's what I do to avoid making a treasury direct account.

Problem is you get royally screwed on yield buying treasuries in small quantities on Fidelity. Unless you're looking to buy $500k+ you are going to get a yield that is further below market than I personally am willing to accept. It's generally not a problem with munis or corporates, but small guys definitely take it in the shorts for treasuries in my experience.

How much are we talking? What about Schwab? That's who I've been using. I did very little research.
