I am an undergraduate engineering student, and I will be entering my senior year next week. I have been interested in the investing world for a long time now and I was wondering if any Aggies know how to get an opportunity at a Hedge Fund. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks, and Gig 'Em!

It's tough (or at least used to be). Most are in NYC or northeast.

HBK and Q were/are in DFW. Most of the interns at HBK in the front office were Ivy League with Texas ties. Back office is a little easier to get into with an accounting degree.

Mays has a couple of programs that may be useful to look into and talk to. You likely don't qualify given you major, but they could be aware of similar programs for someone with your background/interests.

One is Aggies on Wall Street (for finance majors), and the accounting department has one for deal making (M&A), I think.

These would overlap more with investment banks than would a classic hedge fund.

Sacrilege, I know. My son was Aerospace engineering and got into a graduate program at UT business school which is focused on quantitative analytics for engineers. Vast majority of those guys go into banking and deal making of some sort.

Look into Titans of Investing at Mays.

Apply to Mays Business Fellows. They like engineers.

Easiest path IMO? Do investment banking for 2 years following undergrad and either go to a top 5 business school for your MBA or use your network to transition from IB to a hedge fund.
