I just had to pay $600 to form two LLC's. Oklahoma is $104 and Florida is $125.

Mini rant over.

Are you talking about paying the state of texas? An entity like legalzoom? Did you also pay for a secondary office to hold your professional address and mail? Different states have different llc protections. Thats why so many are incorporated in delaware as you don't have to reveal the names of the owners.

Its $300 per entity to the Texas Secretary of State. Has been forever.

Not using an attorney or a firm like Legal Zoom saves you a few hundred right off the bat.

I did it at the end of 2020 and it cost me ~$400 all-in doing it myself.

Texas veterans can get SOS filing fee waived and franchise tax abatement.

Those are the fees for filing the certificate of formation. The LLC exists. What happens if divorce , death, dissolution, disagreement (if multi member)? Do you have your "books" ready to prove you are operating as an LLC, etc.

I had a client contact me this week on an LLC issue where they prepared their own operating agreement. Long story short, he basically got swindled of his control in a multi million dollar hotel by a member of the LLC as the operating agreement was deficient.

Like wills/trusts, you can do them on your own and all is good until it isn't good.

Seems minimal in the cost of doing business. Just wait until you pay the cpa.

I think most states are about the same in the end. OK and FL, if I'm not mistaken, also require annual reports to be filed, which they charge for. In Texas, you pay your $300 filling fee, but there isn't much to pay after that. You have to do a Franchise Tax report, but there is no filing fee. Perhaps you even come out ahead forming in Texas, if you're using the LLC long enough.
