Howdy! I just landed a job in Wilmington NC and I'll be moving there next month. Any Wilmington Ags here? I'm looking for any recommendations about the area - food, places to live, things to do. Thanks!

I was just down there today. I really don't know much about the area as far as living goes. We mainly go to see the aquarium, eat seafood, and spend the day at the beach (only two hours from us in Raleigh).

You may want to try the Triangle Area A&M club list-serve and ask if anyone is in the Wilmington area.

There is a college in the area (UNC-Wilmington), so my guess is there should be some fairly decent cheap housing.

I just moved away from Jacksonville, NC which is only about 45 minutes north of Wilmington, so I've spent quite a bit of time there. The downtown area is great, and there are lots of old houses down there that are really cool. The whole waterfront area is nice with a bunch of restaurants and bars. Not sure about the Aggie community in Wimington, but I assure you there are plenty up the road in Jacksonville

Btw, the Carolinas are great, but avoid ANYTHING they call "bbq"

from what i remember: the shipyard rd area between college and carolina beach rd has some nice places. north of college rd towards wrightsville beach has some nice neighborhoods - particularly around oleander to wrightsville rd.

don't touch the bbq. just chug a bottle of vinegar to get the same effect

edit: not sure about kure beach and south but it's metered paking at both carolina beach and wrightsville beach at all beach access parking unless you get a permit - not sure if wilmington residents apply for the permits

What Smithfields's calls BBQ - I'm pretty sure is just pulled pork soaked in urine.

Don't listen to them - Carolina BBQ is OK, just different.

Buccaneer and Ant Hill Gun clubs are both decent. I'm in Myrtle, so let me know if any Aggie actives get organized - I tried, but didn't have much luck finding other Ags (aside from my brother.)

Don't know anything about it, but the owner of the Duck and Dive Pub is a decent fellow.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been here almost a week and I'm really liking it so far. I still haven't tracked down any Ags in Wilmington, but I'm sure there are some in the area. And I haven't tried the BBQ (yet), but it's only a matter of time before I give it a try.

I'm a little ways up the road near Lejeune. See Ags on a regular basis but haven't found any organized group yet.

I am an Aggie, living in downtown Wilmington. With Camp Lejeune, New River, and Cherry Point all close by, there should be a decent showing of Aggies in the area, but I haven't seen anything organized yet, aside from the Triangle area A&M club in Raleigh. I usually get together with a couple of Aggie friends I know in Hampstead, or we meet up at bdubs.

As far as places to live, I would recommend Mayfaire, Monkey Junction, or downtown. If you're doing downtown, you should shoot for the south end and stay west of 4th street, or else push on out to 17th and above.

Any of the rest of y'all shooters - we could arrange an Aggie Squad at some of the matches, maybe?

Anybody know a place showing the SC State game today? I think we're on ESPN3, but not sure who's gonna be showing it. I'm gonna try Carolina Ale House in Wilmington. Come on out and look for the Maroon polo, or post on here if you know a better place to watch.

game is on Fox Sports Carolinas (at least here in Raleigh).
