On the strip I always enjoyed going to O'Shays its next to the flamingo and its more laid back and most of the dealers have a sense of humor .......At least they use to .....

Texas Station is not bad either.......but a pain to get to

I've always loved the IP. Not the cleanest place in the world, but everyone is very nice. Plus they have the best looking waitresses, hands down.

F(DFck Vegas. I'm done with that place. Just got back last week and they saw me coming this time.

Last week Mandalay Bay was pretty empty.

If you venture downtown, try the Las Vegas Club or the Golden Nugget. Both had $5 blackjack and roulette tables.

Man... O'Shays... you really know how to slum it. Nice place to gamble, and they DO appreciate it... Although, one night we went through like 4 decks of cards, and never won a hand, in 21. We're all pretty seasoned players. The dealer got blackjack like 4 times in a row.

We loved going to the IP, until everyone felt they were too good for it. *ahem*. We asked a taxi one time, having told him to take us to the IP... "Is the IP the worst hotel?" He said, no, it was the 2nd... He said Circus Circus was a dump. Having said that... From what I understand, the IP has been purchased and should have been torn down in the last year. The only reason it hadn't, already, was because there was a drain line beneath it. That has been worked around.

Here are my thoughts...

IP if still standing usually has $5 tables during the week, and early during weekends. You can also find $10 tables during weekend nights.

Aladdin - I don't think they EVER have anything less than $25 tables.

Paris - I'll never gamble there... the pit boss was totally unappreciative. I liked their Sport Book, though.

MGM - Pretty nice.

Rio - A pain to get to. They have a pretty decent seafood buffet, so we make it over there from time to time.

Mirage - Pretty nice. We actually play poker there.

Caesars - Too stale and formal for my taste.

Luxor - pretty good, but hit or miss. The hotel is a dump.

Barbary Coast (across from Bally's) - That place is very chipper. Lots of people always having fun. Pretty relaxed. The dealers are very friendly, and give you some space to get a little roudy.

New York New York was nice. They have a little irish pub (9 irishmen?!) right there, so you can take a break.

Harrah's and Ballys are decent. Harrah's is nice, because it has the Half-Yard's, right outside.

Hooters was a joke.

I don't think we are the clientele for places like Venetian, Bellagio, etc.

I'd classify 4 types of casinos:
Upscale/Elite - Stuffy, high limits and ALL business = Caesars, Mirage, Venetian, Bellagio
Normal Places - Fun, nice, but not much riff raff = New York New York, Harrah's, Bally's, Mirage
Bottom Rung - Fun and exciting, lower limits - IP, Barbary Coast, O'Shays <- This is where we go, when we aren't feeling White collar, or have been beaten down... or just a little intoxicated.

Other - Hooters, MGM, Luxor, Rio = Places we've played, and might go again, but wouldn't go out of our way.

I usually stay at the Flamigo mostly because of the location. It's relatively easy to change casinos and hopefully your luck if necessary. Mirage probably has the best poker room. But I like $5 crap tables and being able to find my way back to my table from the restroom. It's easy to get lost there. Everyone ought to try downtown at least once. It's fun.

I like Casino Royale. Also, they have a ton of Blackjack Switch tables which is way too fun.

I always stay at Mirage. Between them and TI, we never leave those places.

I have been to all of the above, and I like the Wynn the best. Of course I was an Old Desert Inn supporter, so it just may be the location and the golf course that draw me to the Wynn.

Switch Blackjack is where you play two hands at once. Then you are allowed to switch the top two cards to essentially make new hands.

Difference besides that is blackjack only pays 1:1 and the dealer pushes on 22.

I like it a lot, I think it's way more fun than regular blackjack.

I second this statement. I like the Barbary Coast quite a bit. I've played $3 tables there before.

barbary coast doesn't exist anymore...it is now Wild Bill's Gambling Hall. haven't been since it has been under the new ownership, but will probably stop by in November.
the one bad thing is that they got rid of Michael's, the restaurant in the back of the Barbary Coast....that place was old Vegas, awesome.

I haven't been downtown in a few years. Does anyone know if the Horseshoe still has that great sandwich shop back by the sports book?
