How long do you want to ignore this user?
I figure I'm good taking shorts for daytime sightseeing and such, and a little cocktail dress or two for the evenings. My husband, however, has no idea what to pack. We're going to go to a show, the casinos, and maybe some clubs (he would like to see the "architecture" at ghostbar, and I just might let him go, with me on his arm, of course). Any tips on what he should wear?

Looking back, it was funny. I guess the cocktail dress comparison led you to make the clarification!

Really up to him. Nice pants and collared shirt is fine. Jeans are fine for the clubs. Dress code for clubs is no shorts, sandals, hats, tank top, tennis shoes.

Yeah, the Ghost Bar has some REALLY nice women, uh I mean "architecture" up there; at least when we went.

I tried to get into Dre's (THE after-hours club on the strip, basement of the Barbary Coast) one time wearing jeans and a button-down shirt, but they turned me away at the door ... So, I would have him bring a nice pair of pants to make sure you don't raise the ire of any bouncer. Better safe than sorry.

Besides, the overwhelming majority of tourist-types in Vegas seem to be outfitted in shorts and t-shirts (along with the odd fanny pack) ... it gets old quick. Stand out from the crowd by dressing a bit nicer ...

A lot clubs will not let you wear jeans.

Most people in Vegas are casual in the day and dress up at night.

Black slacks and a nice dress shirt are sufficient.

Definitley needs to wear nice pants to clubs. A lot of the high end clubs won't let you in with jeans...

Ghost Bar would allow nice jeans, and by nice I don't mean new. They need to be something better than Gap, LEVI's or Wranglers.

What clubs don't allow jeans?

My wife thought the dress code was "nicer" and I was meeting up with her later in the night. I was wearing jeans and a nice long sleeve t-shirt, I was playing poker at Caesar's and went up to the guy at Pure and asked the dress code, he said what I was wearing was fine and hooked me up on the VIP list the night of NBA all-star game. I figured most of the other clubs are similar to Pure.

PURE is ok with nice jeans, so is Ghostbar...really they all are ok with jeans as long as they are not all trashed out.

You can wear a nice pair of jeans and a nice shirt to a cirque show or restaurant. You will see such a wide range of clothing you won't stand out unless you are to the far left or far right.

If you are going to play craps though, I wouldn't do it without a tux.

Especially if it's more an upscale place, like Circus Circus.

There are only a few resturants in Vegas that require a coat and tie...two I think. Everything else in town is casual to business casual....A jacket of some sort is to be desired simply because it gets pretty dared chilly at night.
Jeans will even be fine most places, possibly even shorts during the day at others.
The Casino it's self only requires you have on clothes that include a space for carring money to lose.
But, as with most things, consider the image you wish to give. If you want top service from waitress or bartender or the guy at a front door to cab drivers, and esp. Casino Hosts... it's best to dress like you mean business...(in in this case, the business of fun)
