My wife and I just hit 10 years and I am starting to plan an anniversary trip. The one request my wife has is going somewhere with an over water bungalow with the nice clear water.

I've started looking into some places like Bora Bora, Fiji, Tahiti, and a couple other places. I looked at some Costco bundles and am doing some research on packages through a few other places.

Looking for any recommendations on where to go, places to stay, where to book, anything!

What time of year? Bora Bora, Maldives, Fiji (and even Panama) all have awesome overwater options but the weather strongly determines where to go.

ETA: Happy Anniversary! Coming up on my 10th next year and I'm currently working on a few options to present to my wife.

Time of year is flexible. Could be any time in 2027. Would preferably like to go at a non-peak time, but still enjoyable weather and everything.

Timing wise, something like 5-7 days.

Budget is what might be the sticker. I'd like to stay in the 5k range, but initial research says that may not be doable.

Wife and I are doing Fiji next year.

Make sure you research tides and moon phase once you decide on location. This may not effect some resorts (Bora Bora), but the ones we were looking at in Fiji could be over lagoons that nearly dry up in low tide.

I personally think that's a long way to go with only 5-7 days, maybe if you have closer to 7 days in the actual destination. Going East you land 2 days after you leave and on the way back you lose another day.

Budget is probably not going to get you an overwater bungalow but being flexible on dates you might be able to rack up some points and do part on points and part on cash. There are some good blogs out there to get some ideas.

Good point on time. 7 days at destination would probably be good.

May be able to go up to 7-8k

Would like to do the over water bungalow but open to a beach villa or something too for options

If the $7k - $8k is for the hotel only, you might be able to find something in the shoulder season. Fiji tends to be the cheaper option of the bunch with Maldives and Bora Bora have a higher entry point.

Just my two cents, but that budget range will be more entry level and that's a long way to go for entry level. Not trying to talk you out of it, just sharing my thoughts. Getting some credit card points that are transferrable would go a long ways.

If you are open to beach front villas, Turks and Caicos is a great spot for this. Just had another TexAg client head there for his 15th anniversary.

Just got back from the Maldives. Highly recommend. We stayed at Niva Velassaru and it was great. Entire resort on its own island about a mile all the way around. 25 minute boat ride from the main airport.

Agree with others to try to extend time there because getting to and from is an ass whooping. We went DFW-London-Maldives so basically two back to back 10 hour flights each way.

Once you're there you won't want to leave. Never seen water so electric blue. Sand like powdered sugar.

Attendance seemed to be a bit down, the staff told us a lot of guests had been canceling recently due to travel issues through the Middle East. We were originally slated to visit earlier in the year with a flight connection through Doha but noped out of that once things with Iran kicked off. More Russians there than we expected... apparently it's one of the few tropical resort places they can still legally fly to directly.

Palafitos in Playa del Carmen may be the closest you'll get. And it's still $1500 / night. At least it's easy to get to (and all inclusive).

We did Bora Bora for our 25th. It's not cheap. Assuming you can get there and afford the rooms you still have to pay for meals / drinks / excursions / etc. It adds up fast.

One other high end we really like in Cancun is Atelier. I hear great things about Excellence as well. Places like that are probably closer to the budget you're looking at.

I would say so, though it depends on the resort level. For a further breakdown, I just booked a 7 night honeymoon for clients to the Conrad Rangali for next February.

Flights in economy were $3,500 total.

Conrad over water bungalow (including breakfast and seaplane transfer) was $13,000. Still gotta pay for lunch, dinner, drinks, and any activities. Night fishing in the Maldives looks awesome.

May/June & November will be your best bet for pricing & weather. December to April is really crowded and peak rates.

Yeah... just for the resort. Roundtrip business class airfare was that amount on top. The thought of being in coach for 20 hours total each way was a no-go.

If your wife really wants an overwater bungalow, I would highly recommend Nayara Bocas del Toro in Panama. I know it's not the top destination that comes to mind when people think overwater but Panama is a beautiful country. You can spend a couple days in the old town an then the remainder of the trip at the resort.

It's adults only, the water is clear, amazing food. It's not the white sandy beaches of Maldives or Turks but it's a really romantic spot.

I go to Costa Rica frequently and October and November are slower months due to rainy season. This is not necessarily the case on the Caribbean side. Bocas del Toro is not far from puerto Viejo and would probably come closer to fitting the bill budget and time wise. I have never been there to Bocas, but have started looking at that as an option and I have seen the overwater bungalows featured .

I am tentatively thinking stay a few days in Panama City and see the old town and then catch a flight to near Bocas del toro. Coming in from Costa Rica is an option too.

My family and I loved T & C last summer. We stayed in a nice house on the south side of the island, opposite Grace Bay Beach, which was easily accessible with a short drive (on the 'wrong' side of the road). We did not have a proper beach but could walk over a few feet of the rocky shore right into the perfect water, which was no more than chest deep for as far we cared to walk. Anyway, VRBO or AirBNB for the houses. I've heard of these two resorts for the luxury type stay. Maybe you have too....

Both of those are ultra lux properties, Ambergris caye charters a private flight to their island. Amanyara is awesome but the beach there is rocky, not the white sand.

Grace Bay, Wymara, COMO Parrot Caye are all great options.

This would be a great trip!

Also look at Isla Secas and Isla Palenque. They're both private island resorts, beautiful properties.

The wife and I did the Maldives for our honeymoon, and loved it. Pro tip if you go that route: spend a couple days in Singapore to break up the flights.

The two resorts are pretty different, so I wouldn't go into Bocas expecting it to feel like Springs.

Springs is more polished, traditional five-star luxury, while Bocas is much more barefoot luxury…relaxed, remote, intimate, and all about the setting and experience.

That said, Nayara delivers to the same level across their properties, but tailored to what that property is designed for.

Not trying to give a non-answer answer, but that's the best way I can compare them.

I think if you pair it with Panama City it isn't too difficult to get to. Easy flight, short drive and 20 min boat ride. If you fly in internationally you have to transfer airports and follow the same steps so that can make for a long day. They do offer a VIP transfer from the international airport but I haven't priced that out before.

I have not, but I have colleagues who have been to both of them. They liked the Atacama location but were not impressed by the Easter Island location. The Atacama is a nice resort with great curated excursions. It lacks the breadth of Awasi or Explora if that's what you're going for.

For Atacama I would personally pick Explora or Awasi over Nayara; and on Easter Island, it's Explora Rapa Nui Lodge every day of the week.

Chile is one of my favorite countries and is super under-rated, so I love getting to talk about it

I know its been talked about a ton, but below is what my clients spent for their Maldives vacation. Their resorts were all-inclusive, so they only had excursions and other things, like underwater dining added to the cost. This was Sept 2025.

Resort 1 - 6 nights - $4924
Resort 2 - 6 nights - $8876
Economy Flights - $1441 per person
Transportation from airport to Resort 1 - $509/person
Upgrades on Seaplane - $110
Insurance - Medical Only

Total - $17994

Are you able to work deals using Hilton points that's better than published rates? I'm sitting on ~2.3M points that I've been wanting to use on a trip similar to this or perhaps a European ski trip.

Unfortunately, no. Hotels don't offer discounted points rates to Travel Agents (even for my own travel) and I have no way of using your points to make the reservations.

If you need help figuring out how to use them and don't want to spend the time reading the blogs and such, I can help with a strategy but that's about it unfortunately.

The Conrad Maldives is incredible and their standard category includes the overwater bungalow. The WA in the Maldives is widely regarded as one of the best but availability can be really tough.

For Ski I'd suggest the WA Park City. The resort itself wasn't anything fancy but it's basically a ski in ski out.
