My son has plans to spend one night in the Atlanta area on his way back to Texas from an internship. Looking for recommendations for what part of the metro area he might want to target for a quick hotel stay. He's going to have a pick-up full of stuff (covered and locked) so somewhere that might offer a little more ease of mind.

A general rule of thumb is to avoid the south side of town, particularly if he is going to have a loaded truck. Without more specifics, the northern suburbs would likely be the safest bet.

Thanks! Not sure of his exact travel route, but my hunch is he'll be coming in on I-85 (from looking at a map). Mainly just needs a decent area to stop for the evening/night where he can grab a bite and some sleep before hitting the road again the next morning.

I would try one of the smaller towns past Atlanta. Also, don't pick a hotel along the interstate.

Two specific recs. Both are South of Atlanta off I-85, which means he won't have to deal with Atlanta NE-side traffic the next morning, and well past the Atlanta Airport where he should not stay.

TownPlace Suites (Marriott brand) in Newnan - Newer, close to many restaurants & retail, & not right on the interstate but convenient to get back on.

Courtyard (Marriott brand) in Lagrange. 45 minutes further south from Newnan. 10 minutes from I-85, on the Lagrange downtown Square. Lots of fast food options coming & going from I-85, and some good downtown restaurants for dinner if he gets in early enough.

I was in downtown Atlanta for Verticon this year.

Do not stay in Atlanta with a truck load of stuff you want to keep.

Stayed in Peachtree City back in February at the Cottages at Laurel Brooke. Great property, super safe area and suburb southwest of Atlanta

We just stayed at a Home 2 Suites in Cumming when we were there a couple of weeks ago for baseball. It's about 30 or so minutes north of ATL. Great area. Great place to stay. Really nice shopping area directly next to it.

I have to say, we were in Newnan a couple of days and it was a really nice area. The downtown part was really quaint and lots of people out shopping . Then we grabbed a bite to eat when we were leaving in the, I guess, newer part and it had lots of eating and places to shop.

Fun fact: Alan Jackson is from Newnan! There's a big mural on the side of one building in the small downtown.
