I have the United MileagePlus Explorer Card, which I use for travel and flight purchases but not much for day-to-day spending. I'm moving to Thailand in a few months and will probably only fly United once a year, if that. I'm thinking about canceling it and getting a different card. I have Premier Silver status for the rest of the year, so I don't really need the extra bags or priority boarding. I don't want to keep paying the annual fee for a card that will be of very little use to me.

Any tips for a new card? Most of my travel after June will be in Southeast Asia.

Look into the Cap one venture card and Amex gold. I use them daily. We have taken full advantage of the points to pay for vacations. I have the Amex platinum but it's not a good daily use card in my opinion. We use that on trips as it has some nice benefits.

I have a United, Marriott and then Chase Sapphire Reserve. Marriott will be going away in the next few months as I am 4 nights away from hitting Platinum for life, so no need for it after that.

Chase Sapphire is what I use for my business but may swap that up when not using Marriott anymore. Really only use United for United stuff and my 15 year old has a card on it so she can use it when needed.

I don't know for sure, to be honest. I suspect probably Air Asia, Bangkok Air, and Thai Air.

United is good for Thailand as there are multiple Star Alliance partners that fly into BKK - Thai Airways, ANA, Singapore Air, and EVA.

Also, Thailand should get their category 1 FAA rating reinstated this month or next, and once that happens I expect Thai airways to resume direct flights to the States.

FWIW, I primarily use Chase Sapphire Reserve and transfer miles to United for booking rewards flights to/from BKK.

I checked it out but the annual fee seems a bit much, considering how little I actually use the card. Maybe I should just downgrade to the Mileage Plus Gateway card and stick with using that? I can just continue to use my United miles with Star Alliance partners.

Yeah, they're good. I've flown on them twice.

FYI, I flew Thai AIr Asia this past summer from DMK to Siem Reap. They have a 7kg limit for carry ons, and they were checking bag weights at check in.

Google the Chase Trifecta.

Chase Sapphire + Freedom is what I've had. It sponsored my honeymoon using points transferred to Hyatt, Emirates, and Virgin Atlantic.

You could also do Capital 1 Venture + Amex Gold. We decided to diversify since some have transfer partners that Chase doesn't have. Personally I've used Chase points transferred to Hyatt the most. Lots of nice Hyatt hotels in SE Asia.
