Anybody been?? Any advice would be appreciated

Me and my wife love hiking , direct flight from Newark on united Airlines starting June 2025 make it as easy to get to as Kauai or Big Island They call it the Hawaii of Europe due to its amazing scenery , throw in good Mediterranean food and seafood

6 hr time difference , tickets running about 1500 a person

Looks amazing we would stay for a full 7 days , rent a car , stay in Funchal but get to all parts of the island as it's not too big to navigate by car . Looking to go 2nd week of June

Madeira is fabulous. Sailed there, Cape Verde, Canaries and Azores. All have great hiking. Did some diving there as well. Great food and wine as well as ease of travel. I will go back to do whale watching as my bucket list is to see a blue whale

Been to Funchal several times on cruises, but also spent a few nights at Quinta Da Casa Branca, which was pretty fabulous.

It is a beautiful island, I doubt you will be disappointed.
