Does anyone have any experiences with this property outside of Austin?

My wife and I just went for a couple of days and had a pretty horrible experience. For the price point we were expecting a lot more.

Don't want to rip on them too hard on a public forum, but curious what other people's experiences have been.

We were there for NYE - so maybe that was part of the problem.

Also - if anyone has any recommendations for resorts in Texas that are fun to visit, I'd be all ears. We are in Dallas and have been looking for a luxury resort on some land to have as our "go-to" place. I have had good experiences with La Cantera, but was interested in the Omni as it is a little closer for us. No kids currently, but are expecting one on the way, so that might change what we are looking for a little bit.

We have stayed there maybe 3-4 times for a staycation in late Aug. Last time was this past Aug. Always have a great time, but we spend quite a bit of the time near the pool which overlooks the 18th green...but not an option during winter. So I'd recommend going when it's warm. We ate at the steak restaurant (Bob's) and had no complaints. They have a great spa there too, which if you're there one of you should take advantage of. My wife did, and I hung out at the tiny spa pool on the 2nd deck.

We also do a staycation around Christmas every year (an overnighter) near downtown somewhere. We stayed at The Tommie a couple of weeks ago, which we really liked. Neat bar, pool and restaurant on like the 10th floor. Was nearly empty, which is great if you don't like crowds and like inexpensive hotel rates. They gave us a corner room with a great view of south and west. Wife loved walking South Congress and 2nd St , and doing some shopping.

We do one to two staycations there a year with and without the kids. We usually do 4th or July and New Years eve.

Can't recommend it enough.

Great golf, great spa, usually kids activities like animal shows and crafts. Arcade, great bar

I'd skip Bobs if you have been to any other Bobs, its a sad excuse for what Bob Sambal envisioned. Blind Salamander is better, Crenshaws is easy, the breakfast place and pool bar are good

Interested in what was bad about your stay? Their NYE party is usually lame but the bar is great

I want to preface this by saying that they sent me an email asking how my stay was, and I explained to them some of the events that happened. To their credit they gave me a phone call the very next morning and were very apologetic and offered me 2 free nights to come back and knocked some of the price off my tab. I've had issues with a couple of hotels in the past, and have never received much of a response, so I was really impressed by them.

As far as what went wrong with our stay, I don't really want to go into specifics just because I'm not big on public bashing of businesses, but probably the biggest issue was our room. From talking to friends that have been, I think we might have been put in the "old" tower, and they all swear by the "new" tower.

Biggest gripe was our room wrapped around an elevator shaft, so every time someone got on or off the elevator you would hear it start up, move, and then shut down. In normal circumstances we probably would've just asked to change rooms, but we had driven down on NYE and were rushing to shower and make our dinner reservation, so we didn't have a lot of time. Adding to the complexity of the issue is that my wife is pregnant, so all she was looking to do was rest and relax, which was difficult with the noise coming off the elevator.

Like I said, they were very apologetic and responsive to my complaints, which I really appreciated. They said they had an influx of people book at the last minute due to the weather being so nice, which had left them short handed (in addition to it being NYE). So I think I'll probably give them a pass and take them up on their offer to go back. Was a really pretty view, and seeing all the fireworks shot off by residents in the area was a cool NYE experience. Also went and did the Barton Springs plunge on New Year's Day which was fun.

Yeah elevator noise is a tough one, that often annoys me but the benefit a big property like Omni it means less walking. The new tower is nicer but I have never had problems in the old tower. My solution for noise is other hotel is active noise cancelling using white noise or asked for another room if its really bad.

It is a popular place for locals to take their kids so it can be loud from time to time

Not sure what vibe you'd be looking for, but Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose is awesome, especially if you are outdoorsy.
