Flight attendant spilled a full cup of coffee on my jeans about an hour ago. Still on flight. On a day trip so will need to buy new pants. Luckily she put ice on my leg to keep from burning. Don't think I have burns. Another racket. Offered $75 or miles. Then another 50 or miles.

At least you have wifi working so you can post about it...most of my United flights don't even have working wifi.

I never get the airplane coffee. I can only assume the coffee maker and carafes are never cleaned properly and thus full of nasty gunk.

I bought the WiFi to do work. Didn't get any of that done. Thanks for the laugh. Bonus was I mentioned to enterprise agent when asked how I was doing. Upgraded me to an expedition from the Camry.

Great story. The fun times you forget when traveling for work.

One time I had a customer meeting in Chicago. I had taken the red-eye in from LA overnight and was flying back to LAX that afternoon.

I was really fat and was wearing an old worn out pair of Dockers. On our way into the customer meeting, I bent over to pick something up and ripped the seat of my pants.

I managed to keep my back to the wall during the entire customer meeting so I don't think anybody really noticed. But, after the meeting, the local guy from my company asked if I was ready to go to the airport. I said - uh, I need to go buy a new pair of pants first. So I hit Macy's or whatever on Michigan Avenue and then headed back to O'Hare.

The only other time I've worn a pair of pants out of the store was after the Texas A&M vs t.u. game in 1997 at Kyle Field. I got soaked and bought a pair of Levis at Post Oak Mall to wear back home. I was wearing my Army poncho so my top was dry but my jeans were cold and wet.

Better than that, the water used to brew the coffee comes from the plane's potable water tank. How often do you think that's cleaned?

LOL. That game was ridiculous and almost no one was prepared for it.

They are making the water really hot and passing it thru a filter before serving. Not sterile, but probably good enough to knock out most of the things that will make you sick. If it were so bad, there would be an epidemic of old people getting sick from plane flights. Plenty of more risky things we consume regularly.

They do offer the Illy cold brew now but it is $6. Not sure if you can use it as your free 1k drink or not. Was gonna try it out Wednesday AM but got upgraded so got it for free.

I have a relative who is a pilot. FWIW...he never drinks the coffee because they don't clean the carafes or water tanks. I do, but only if it has Bailey's to kill the funk.

Accidents happen and airplane coffee isn't hot enough to burn skin. Tell the flight attendant it's no big deal in the big picture of life, take the $75 and move on.

My wife actually got a $100k payout from Delta for coffee spilled in her lap. This was about 15 years ago before we met. It was hot enough that she still has scars on her upper thigh. It also essentially melted her pants and she had to take them off in front of the plane and cover up with a blanket for the duration of the flight.

Oh man … sorry to hear that! It sounds miserable.

That may be one of the reasons they lowered the service temperature.

I've got no idea what kind of interval they use but I do know they clean/test the tanks occasionally. I got delayed leaving SFO for about 2 hours because United couldn't locate the paperwork and the folks at the testing lab were at lunch and couldn't confirm the potable water passed the test. Finally boarded taxied a short way, and dealt with 3-4 mechanical issues for another 3 hours before the pilot threw in the towel and canceled the flight. That was a neat day.

While on a business trip, I ripped the ass out of my jeans from top to bottom in front of about 5 female executives. I was standing next to all of them when it happened. It was loud and there was no way out of it. And no stores nearby. We all just laughed and rolled with it. I untucked my shirt and hid it best I could.
