La Cantera does have a great spa, but I would stay at the villa properties rather than the main hotel.

Miraval is great. I've been several times and enjoyed it very much. The food is outstanding, and it's included with the room rate. I had a great spa treatment there, but I would say the spa facilities and amenities are limited. Miraval is also very activities-focused. Check out the daily calendar on their website to see if the activities are things you'd be interested in.

If you stay there, opt for a second floor room that overlooks the trees. It will feel like you are sleeping in a treehouse.

Loma de Vida at La Cantera is a better spa experience, if you like to lounge around and use the facilities. I also think the main pool at La Cantera is great, especially since they have an 18+ pool.

I've always wanted to try Lake Austin Spa and Resort, but it's gotten so expensive, I haven't been. It's similar to Miraval in concept, and it is right on the lake (Miraval is not).

I have not been to Trellis at the Houstonian since it was renovated. I stayed at the Houstonian a few years ago, and the rooms were nothing special.

Personally, I think you are likely to have a more private and less crowded experience at Miraval and Lake Austin, since those are more private properties. They also don't allow children.

Two fairly new Auberge hotels. Bowie House in Fort Worth and Commodore Perry Estate in Austin. Have stayed in a few Auberge hotels/resorts over the years and they are fantastic.

The Omni at Barton Creek is awesome. It's a plus if you golf but a negative if it's a tu home game weekend. The adult only pool overlooks the 18th green of the Fazio Foothills course which affords the opportunity to heckle the golfers from the pool (in good fun of course). It has a separate building (and pool) for the spa.

Stay in a Villa at La Cantera in SA- private pool and bar only for villa guests (there are about 10 villas); you are given a golf cart to use during your stay to take up to the main hotel for restaurants and spa.

Hotel Emma in SA is AMAZING. never done the spa there though so can't provide details, but the hotel and surrounding Pearl district is fantastic.

Not necessarily mega resort like the places listed thus far but you may consider Frenchie boutique in round top. Some good food in town. Can walk everywhere. Hotel has a nice pool and you can get private chef to make you meals and drinks. Round top has a fun brewery in town and several fun bars to hang out at. Just something different if you wanna get out of the city for a night or two.

If cost isn't a concern, the JL Bar is hard to beat for relaxation.
