Young man asking TSA gatekeeper where the AMERICAN gates were. Ooof. I hope he got here super early since he's got more traveling to do. Poor young guy.

Did they respond "this is a domestic airport in the United States, so all of them are American gates." ba dum tsssh.

Anyway, I'm about to fly out to Columbia. Excited for the game this weekend.

I swore American flies there a couple of times a day? Maybe I'm mistaken.

I think they used to pre-pandemic, but I could not find a flight to/from there.

AA stopped flying out of Love in 2014. Right now its SWA, Delta and Alaska Airlines (and JSX).

I had a flight delayed at Love once and got into a conversation with a business person who had a layover and he was telling me how he had "never seen this terminal" and how crazy big the airport was and he was confused why the board only showed southwest flights.

I was super confused at first, but figured out he thought he was at DFW since that is probably the airport he usually connects through but was flying southwest for the first time and didn't realize Dallas has more than one airport.

Southwest plans to be flying out of DFW by 2025, so imagine the confusion then

You are right none since 2014. Yup
I see southwest intends to fly from dfw in 2025

They fly out of both Hobby and IAH now, and have heard of a few tales on confusion, which isn't a fun drive at any time of day between the two airports

Reminds of the time I picked my bro in-law up. He called while I was on my way. I kept asking which terminal.

I finally realized he was a Love and I was entering dfw. During rush hour that sucked.

It was my fault. They always flew into dfw and I didn't pay attention to the airport when monitoring his flight (and ignored that part of the texts).

AA showed up at Love in 2000 a few months after Legend Airlines started flying all business class jets to conform to the Wright Amendments seat limitation on long haul. AA did the same with some old Fokker jets and cut the legs out from under Legend in a matter of months forcing them into bankruptcy.

Delta flies out of both O'Hare and Midway in Chicago. I made the mistake one time of showing up at O'Hare for my flight to Detroit, and was quite frustrated when I couldn't check in at the kiosk. Missed my flight out of Midway, but caught another one an hour later.

That was interesting to watch back then while SWA played the "Let them fight" Godzilla meme.

I had clients show up at Hobby for their United international flights one day. They paid out the wazoo to then turn around and fly on another airline to Miami, and then Miami to Jamaica. Stayed in like $400/night hotels (2 separate rooms) on their layover in Miami. Didn't even seem to be bothered.

Do NOT show up at the terminal at Love and expect to board JSX. They flight out of the FBOs located on the east side of the field, recently relocating to a spot by the Frontiers of Flight Museum.

Love me some JSX, have only been on SWA twice in the last 2 years after averaging 20+ roundtrips a year for 15+ years.

AA has codeshare flights with Alaska from Love.

accidentally switching IAH and Hobby is a fear every single time I fly. It does not matter how many times I check, I do not feel confident until I'm in front of the gate for the first time.

In unrelated news, I love being an hour or two early for my flight.
In very related news, I love airport beer.

It's easy to remember if you base it on the airline.

United = IAH
SWA = Hobby 99% of the time
Most other airlines = IAH
American and Delta could go either way. I do know that if you fly either of these out of Hobby, you're only going to Dallas or Atlanta.

Point being, having a working knowledge of airline hubs is helpful.

I think its more of "what did I book this time" versus knowing IAH=United and Hobby=SWA. I know for me it is as I head out from the house.

Checking my booking 800 times in the 24 hours before the flight has served me well so far.

Except that one time when a company booked my flights for an interview and I showed up at the airport a day early confused as heck when I was "too early to check in"

People just need to remember what airport they booked when they booked their flight. You have to select either IAH or HOU.

You seem to think mere average citizens are capable of understanding airport names and codes and that huge cities often have more than one airport.

Hope such souls are never challenged to a trip to London, Tokyo and NYC that have multiple large, international airports.

Almost as bad as the time one of my coworkers was trying to get to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the corporate travel group booked her to Fayetteville, NC instead. She realized the mistake as she was sitting on the plane listening to the flight attendant.

Us folks with podunk upbringing deserve a bit of a learning curve! My college GF took a family vacation towards the end of our relationship and needed me to pick her up from the airport in Houston. Her dad was a pilot and mom a flight attendant so her family flew for free, but always on standby so she couldn't easily make it back to college station. I drove from CS to IAH and was waiting for her at arrivals. Couldn't find her anywhere. She kept saying she was at terminal 2 but all the terminals I was seeing were terminals A-D…That day I learned houston had 2 airports and she was at Hobby! That long wait at the airport after an already long travel dad didn't help our relationship one bit haha!

The ticket agent once gave me a ticket to the same city on a different airline and much earlier.

I looked at the departures board and was really confused how the flight was already boarding.

I somehow got through security with a name not matching the ticket.

I got to the gate and she scanned it and said 'huh, you're already on the plane...well, it's leaving so go ahead and board'.

Then there was a guy sitting in my seat and that flight attendant was pissed at me for being late and said 'find on open seat, we gotta go.'

I then looked at my ticket and realized it didn't have my name, so I tapped the guy in my seat on the shoulder and it was his ticket.

Just a ton of security failures.

I landed in Chicago and went right to the United desk and said 'I assume my return ticket is cancelled because you don't think I just flew here'. Took a couple days to get my bags and then I had to go through a security debrief describing what happened before they would reinstate my return ticket.

Weirdest thing ever.

I flew Legend in the fall of 2000 round trip to NYC (I forget which airport) to visit a childhood friend of mine that was living in Central Park West. It was a very comfortable flight. It was the first time I had ever flown first class. I bought the ticket on sale for $300 round trip. The private terminal at Love had free snacks and beverages. The first class seat came with an in-flight meal and each seat back had a screen with limited satellite TV, which was still pretty new back then. It's too bad (but not surprising) that AA buried them in litigation.

I swear that I had flown United out of Hobby fairly recently. When did they stop flying there? United Express, but still united. Looks like that isn't there anymore.
