Seat selection on United partner

I am flying to Thailand later this year for work and am ticketed through United, but some of my flights are operated by Japan Air and ANA.

When I booked the tickets through my company's travel system, I got seat assignments for the United flights, but not for the partner flights, and I want to choose seats for all.

In my United app, it seems like I can select seats on the partner flights, but the app also suggests using the partner website instead.

Has anyone else done this? Anything to watch out for?

When I had a similar situation a few years ago, I attempted to change my seats directly on the ANA website, and it seemed to work at the time. However, it also seemed to cause a problem with my ticket that wasn't discovered until I tried to check in for the flight. Based on what the checkin counter agent said, it was almost as if my flight was booked fine initially but later cancelled due to an issue at the time of seat selection. Luckily, they were able to get it sorted out, but I'd prefer to avoid issues like that again.

You need to get the record locator for the carrier not the UA one. You may need to call the company travel agent to get that. Once you have that you can select seat.on the carriers web site. If this is corprate travel your company travel should be able to assign seats.

I have found it to be quite difficult to book seat selections on United partner airlines when booking tickets through United....Unless you are using a travel agent that can jump through all the hoops for you.

If no travel agent then I agree you have to use the partner confirmation number / record locator and log on to the partner website to pull up the booking, and then sometimes you will be able to select a seat. Good luck.

Yep. If you can't use the United number on the partner airline, call and they should be able to give it to you. Some airlines may have fees to reserve.

United supplies the ANA record locator. You'll see it if you pull up your reservation on their website. You can use that on the ANA website to select your seats.

Thanks for the helpful replies! I got the ANA record locator from the United app and selected seats on the partner flights.
