Rendezvous is an overrated tourist trap. Try Blues City Cafe on Beale Street.

We went to BB King's a couple years ago. It was alright. But nothing is gonna compare to Texas BBQ. BB's was good for atmosphere and hearing live music.
I'd definitely GTFO of Beale St before dark, tho.

Central is near a museum we are going to so I think we will hit that up. Thanks for info.
Like others said, prepare to be unamazed. If going to Beale, go by Silkys for ribs and gumbo. Also the diving goats in the patio area.
While the Rendezvous is not great it is an institution. It's not what Texans consider to be a BBQ rib. It's very oregano forward with their dry rub. The chicken is better.
Go watch the ducks at the Peabody and then go around the corner to try the Rendezvous.

These were my go to places when I lived there as well. Ribs/Pork Sandwich at BBQ Shop and BBQ Bologna Sandwich at Cozy Corner are things I still crave years later.
I've had Rendezvous and Elwood's Shack. Both great, but Rendezvous ribs are some of the best pork ribs I've ever had.
This. People dog on Rendezvous because that is what is cool to do, but it is a great experience and the ribs and sausage and cheese plate are way better than average. I don't live in Memphis, so when I'm there I'm a tourist and I don't mind going where tourists are supposed to go.Mathguy64 said:

That said, I used to go to Memphis pretty much monthly for years for work, and tried almost all of the locally rated BBQ places.
Central is the best, IMO.
For a very solid choice to or from the airport -- Interstate
Several of the places we visited years ago I wouldn't venture to now.
Went to Rendezvous earlier this month since it was close to the hotel and was really disappointed. It's pretty much like what you would imagine ribs would taste like if you grilled them like a steak.
Central is our favorite. Don't waste your time on Rendezvous… cool atmosphere but mediocre at best food.
The only thing worth a damn at Central is the pulled pork. Everything else they serve is ass.

Did Rendezvous when we were in Memphis several years ago. Not bad but yeah, tourist trap.
Funny part for me was that we had walked the street near the Peabody looking for it, but never did find it. Only when we were on top of the Peabody with the ducks and I happened to look over the edge and saw the entrance at the bottom of some stairs leading down to its basement location.

We were in Memphis last year for a wedding. Ribs at Rendezvous were awful...overcooked and dry. Central BBQ is the ticket.

Yep blakes is good. Where do you live rocky top?
Martin. So I get Blake's any time I want it. Fun fact, I have been eating Blake's since he started in a little food trailer in a parking lot and taught him when he was a college freshman. Consider him a friend now and proud of what he's accomplishing with his restaurant.

That's cool! I've heard/read that he started in a food truck while in college. I'm in Medina and drive up to Martin to get my Texas style brisket fix every kow and then!
