How much travel time would you recommend adding these days for a flight out of IAH terminal E? I plan to Uber there. Is it still advised to go to Terminal A or B and take the train to E?

I am flying out Saturday ~8pm, so normally would get there ~5pm per standard international flight guidance.

Cross-posted on Houston board.

When is your flight? In the morning not much extra time that I find. It gets to be worse in the afternoon/evenings. I picked my husband up at B the other day at around noon. Like zero traffic but we didn't even try for me to pick him up in E.

The train takes 5 minutes, I would just do A or B.

If you are checking bags you need to do A. I am thinking there isn't a bag drop for United in B (I could be wrong).

Edit per post below - I have bag drop backwards.

You have it backwards. There's no United bag drop in A. Have to go to B for that.

Ohh thanks! Sorry about that!

Someone on the cross-posted thread mentioned that the underground train was shut down and that terminal transfers were via shuttle. Any experiences with that?

Go through security at B and then do the above ground train transfer to E. It's faster than going through security at C. You cannot check in at E.

I was on the underground train yesterday and they were running normal. Since you are not parking, going to C terminal drop off should be fine. I only park at B terminal these days and ride the underground train, but if you are not parking then traffic at C or D usually isn't too bad unless you are going with the mid afternoon crowd for the evening overseas flights. Having said all this, until they get all the construction finished and lined out, I don't take the chance with traffic & parking and always go to B terminal and ride the train. It's a guaranteed 10 min extra, but I avoid the random 30 min - 1 hour delays at C & D.

This was the message that accompanied my checkin text from United yesterday, so I guess my initial target destination is Terminal C.

"There's quite a bit of airport construction, and Terminal E check-in and parking garage is closed, so please add extra time. Traffic peaks occur from 5-8pm.

Your departing gate determines what terminal to use to check in and access the gate.

Flights departing Terminal A or B, use Terminal B

Flights departing Terminal C or E, use Terminal C

Flights departing Terminal D, use Terminal D"

That's correct. At that time of day it's not that crowded at C and is the biggest terminal for United checkin. You can easily walk to E from there.

If you are going spring break, go through security at B and take the above ground train after security to E.

I consistently go to B whether I park or get dropped off. And I travel out of IAH several times a month. It's no hassle except transferring between terminals but that's very minor inconvenience.

Also upon return, I often get picked up at B for the same reason.

How much of a Charlie Foxtrot is IAH currently ? Fam is flying out end of the week. Any terminals to avoid or try for checking in with TSA pre ? I don't think they've designated a terminal yet. It's a small domestic flight to Tennessee

I flew out Sat, came back yesterday.

E is still a hot mess outside. I heard traffic was really backed up. We had no issues getting dropped off at C but it was 6:30AM.

When we came back we went downstairs and took the train to B and then had the hotel shuttle pick us up there. I will say at first I was expecting to get a cab but there weren't any there, they had to call one from A. My hotel shuttle just happened to stop by so we hopped on it.

It was about a 7 min walk or so from E to C to catch the underground train.

If your flight is leaving out of C3-15, I've found the fastest route is to park in B, and then walk through the tunnel at gate B85. Drops you right in that new part of C and you don't have to mess with the construction and changing trains on the skylink.

Airline?

If you're parking at the terminal, I'd park in A/B to be safe. Last few times I've flown C hasn't been an issue with traffic, but not really worth the risk to me. I've seen traffic so bad it took 20+ minutes just to get from C to A/B.

And make a reservation, will also save you $$ vs. just paying there.

Just plan on going to B, going through security there, and taking the overhead tram to C or E if you have to.

Be leery of using Parking Spot. We had a driver this past summer insist on dropping us at C, even though we were flying American out of A
