How early do you recommend arriving at the Hobby for a midweek flight at 10am? Checking bags and taking the whole fam.

I've flown in/out of Hobby a few times during the past year.

Sometimes they can have problems at baggage check that might take 20-30 minutes worst case.
I've seen security backed up for maybe 30 minutes.
Then you'll want to be at your gate a good 30 minutes before boarding.

So, i'd say 60 minutes minimum.
No need to arrive earlier than 90 minutes.

I typically arrive 60 minutes before takeoff. If I've got the family, I tack on 30 more minutes, grab some chickfila and let the kid play in the play area.

I'm TSA Pre, but recently, I've noted the regular security line moves just as quick.

10AM is a reasonable time, so it's not like you'll have to get up too early even if you want to play it safer. You never want to be the guy dragging his family through the airport as he runs for the plane because there was an accident on 45.

You're more cautious than I am. Ever since I got precheck I've been arriving at smaller airports like Hobby and Love like 45-50 minutes before departure (assuming no bag check)

with Clear and Precheck, you'll never wait more than 10-15 minutes to get through security at Hobby.

An hour is typically plenty of time

Depends on the airline and their boarding policies too. With Southwest's boarding, you will want to be at the gate no later than 20-30 minutes before departure just in case they decide to board early. No point getting an A group boarding pass only to show up when they are boarding the C group.

If you have TSA pre-check and check in online such that you are just doing a bag drop for check bags at the airport, you should be able to make it from the front door to the gate in about 20-30 minutes. Add time for off-site parking/walking in from the garage. Add anywhere from 15-30 minutes if you don't have TSA-pre. If you are on SW, and don't have TSA-pre, I would try to be at the front door of the airport at about 90 minutes ahead of time. My wife and I have TSA pre and we usually show up a little over an hour ahead of time and get to the gate with plenty of time.

Hobby is the only airport that's ever pulled my luggage and made me discard fluids over the limit out of my toiletries bag. And it's happened to me multiple times there. This is the precheck line.
