Looking for any tips or suggestions. Wife and I are looking to possibly go next June for five or six nights. Curious what town would be a good base to stay at? Staying on the coast the entire time a bad idea? I am open to staying in two different towns, but that is it. Maybe one along the coast and one in the country side? Mainly looking to relax, stroll the towns, eat and drink good.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Looking now flights seem to be around 1kpp. With that said, how much money am I looking at spending for a trip like this? What's the best/easiest way to get around the country? Train? Taxi?

It's been 7 yrs since we were there. We stayed in Minori and took the boat to Amalfi, Maiori, etc.

Lots of good food in Minori, and everything was substantially less expensive than in Amalfi.

We took the train for most of our travels. Get an 8 day pass.

Sorrento is a good choice. That's where we stayed, at Grand Hotel La Favorita. It was lovely, and you have easy access to the ferries and Pompeii.

If you want to go all out, stay at Monastera Santa Rosa. It's where my parents stayed for their 40th, and I've recommended it to a few friends who have loved it. Adults only, small boutique hotel with a fabulous view.

If I had it to do all over again, I would stay a few nights on Capri.

We stayed 3 nights in Positano and wished for more.
Sea facing room at Hotel Eden Roc and a cooking class at La Tagliatta are my 2 recs. Outstanding place for a couples trip. I will return.

We stayed in Positano, but took trips to Amalfi, Capri, and Sorrento. Between the places we visited, Positano was by far our favorite, and glad our guides recommended that as our home base for the area.

Stayed in Ravello in a B&B about 10 years ago. We had a car, and ventured out to several of the towns already listed. You can't go wrong with any of them.

We stayed in Sorrento and it was great but I'd recommend staying in Positano, Ravello or Amalfi, which seemed prettier, quieter and more quaint. I would also like to spend a few nights on Capris. We spent a great day there but would have liked more time and think it would be really great once all the day tourists left the island.

We were on the Amalfi Coast this past July. I want to move there for the rest of forever. It is heavenly!

We stayed at Hotel Belvedere and could see Monastero Santa Rosa, mentioned above, from our terrace - they are in the same teeny "town." Hotel Belvedere was lovely and a wonderful place to stay, though not as swanky as the other suggestions (we were traveling with our four children and had to get two rooms $$$$$).

We chartered a boat for a day and went to Capri and Sorrento, ending up in Positano with friends from home who were staying there. Had dinner in Positano then an easy taxi ride back to Hotel Belvedere.

If I had a week there, I think I would spend half my nights on Capri and the other half in Positano, then charter boats to see "all the places" up and down the coast. Sooo lovely, so much good food. I would also have a helicopter fly me from Naples over the mountains to Amalfi. Several of my kids just about lost their breakfast on the ride - think Road to Hana. Kidding about the last part. Sort of.

You will LOVE it!

This was our exact experience. We stayed at Le Sirenuse which was incredible.

My last few Italy clients stayed in Positano and loved it. I've had a few that really enjoyed Sorrento too!

Our boat charter for 11 was $1500 - he picked us up from the shore/beach at our hotel at 8:30 in the morning and dropped us in Positano around 6:30 in the evening. As I mentioned above, we had dinner in Positano that night with friends from home who were staying there, then took a cab back to Hotel Belvedere. The trip included water, beer and two bottles of champagne (real champagne, not cava, prosecco, etc.).

I read on TexAgs and other sites that you can rent a boat yourself to explore the Amalfi Coast. We spend quite a bit of time on a boat on the Texas coast and I am not sure it would have translated well. They had a crazy radio system for approaching the dock in both Sorrento and Positano that seemed like it would have been difficult to navigate? Just FYI if you are considering that option.

Our car ride from Naples to Hotel Belvedere was $180 Euros, cash, each way. Booked through the hotel. Do not try to book it once you get to the Naples airport if you fly - that place is a circus!! Which reminds me - we did fly to Naples - we were coming from Munich and made more sense for us.

Finally, consider stopping in Pompeii on the way to or from the Amalfi Coast - your driver can stop and let you look around, then pick you up to continue your journey when finished. Ours charged $50 Euros an hour for this service; we stayed for two hours and I wished we stayed longer.

I highly recommend a guide for Pompeii. It's really cool, but without a guide, you're just wandering around looking at cool stuff with absolutely no context. A guide makes it so much more enjoyable.

You should be able to find small group tours if you don't want to do a private guide.

My wife and I rented a small inflatable-type motor boat in Positano for just the two of us. The first day we took it across to Capri and explored the island from the water. The next day, we rented the same boat and went the opposite way down the coast to sight see. It was awesome and our favorite part of our entire trip to Italy.

We stayed in Positano. Our AirBnB had an amazing view....but unfortunately it was about 1,000 stairs down to the beach

Been twice, 2010 and 2016. Stayed in Positano, you cannot beat it!

Not sure of your budget, but check La Tavolozza. Family run B&B, reasonable rates, good views.

Do not miss dining at La Tagliata; fantastic experience! Restaurant in Positano on the Amalfi Coast - La Tagliata

If you are into ancient history (Greek), travel south down the coast to Paestum. Worth a day's visit.

I have the name of a guy who will transport you from Naples to wherever on the Coast. Nice Mercedes van, homemade limoncello and he speaks decent English. Text me if you are interested. 713 478 0959

Was there in July and second this. We had an archeologist as our private tour guide and it made all the difference.

Also If you can time it go on Friday afternoon. From 2-4 on Fridays only they open up one of the intact houses to walk through and it's awesome. The artwork painted on the walls is almost in perfect condition and there's some furniture in there too. One table in there looks like it could be in a furniture store today. Really incredible place.
