Gonna be in Mexico City for about a week. Haven't been since before covid and would like to try out some different restaurants this trip...nothing fancy or expensive. We will be staying in Zona Rosa, so looking for recommendations in that area, Roma, or Condesa.

I like Cafe de Tucaba in the historical district. It may align with what you're after.

Fisher's

I had an awesome shrimp chilaquiles there.

Contramar

Ahi tuna tostadas

They are across street from each other at the Fuente de Cibeles roundabout in Roma Norte.

Chill outdoor place for some drinks, Jardin del Corregidor in San Miguel de Chapultepec II, across street from the Bosque de Chapultepec.

We're going in June and I'm doing the same thing you are.

Currently I have Contramar and Pujol reserved.

I have on good authority that the outdoor seating at La Buena Birra is an excellent meal - I have that one reserved too.

Still looking for one more excellent spot to fill a lunch void in the schedule.

We live in CDMX and have eaten at every restaurant listed above, and all are very tasty. But since you mentioned cheap and simply but delish, would recommend Casa de Pastor (for tacos de pastor) and Casa de Tono (for pozole and chilaquiles). Both are Mexican diner type restaurants and super super popular withe the locals. Enjoy eating your way through CDMX.

Some good recommendations so far. Now I want a Fisher's shrimp taco with their chipotle sauce!

Atardecer en la Condesa (breakfast/lunch only; small family run restaurant)
Azul (Condesa or Historico)
El Diez (Condesa)
Arroces del Babyface (Doctores - but get a huarache and a fried rice!)
Las Hijas de la Tostada (various locations)
El Caminero (tacos; Reforma behind US Embassy)
La Terminal (lunch; if you end up in Coyoacan)
Casa Portuguesa (Polanco; brunch)
Brassi (Polanco; brunch - but without Parque Lincoln views)

Bars
Baltra Bar (craft cocktails)
Diente de Oro (next door to Baltra)

About 20 years ago, there was a guy who sold Tamales Oaxaqueños on the street (north side of Patriotismo at the Tamaulipas intersection near the Patriotismo metro station). He was only there in the morning around 9-10am-ish and the chicken with green mole tamales were amazing. Total long shot, but it would be amazing if he was still there in the mornings. I miss having a tamal for breakfast!

one of my favorite places to end a trip to Polanco

for a traditional meal with a cool ambiance, I like el cardenal as well.

For higher end dining, Dulce Patria is excellent, but google is indicating it might be "temporarily closed"

Dulce Patria didn't survive the pandemic, unfortunately.

That was my fear.

Really liked that place.

That's funny, Diggity. That would be our last stop as well before grabbing our bags and heading to the airport for our trip home.
