In my last full day of 7 at the Grand now and I'll give a quick review now. Will fill in details while sitting in the airport etc on the way home.

This place is fabulous. First off, it's huge. Absolutely massive. There are carts and trolley's everywhere to get you to and fro. The service has been bar none. Every single person we've interfaced with (save one, more on that in a min) has bent over backwards to do, fix or otherwise perform for us.

The food, overall, is above average. With that said, we researched on the Facebook groups quite a bit and have largely been able to skirt the restaurants with poor reputations and hit the good ones multiple times.

We had a maintenance issue when we first arrived that, admittedly, was a complicated issue to diagnose. (I'm a facility and maintenance manager, I can say that.) Once the issue was found they fixed it. No issue there.

The beach… 7.5/10
The sand, chairs, service, umbrellas etc - all great but due to their location the water isn't particularly clear. We knew this going in and accept that. It is still a great beach.

The one and only complaint I have is they will give you a time share style hard sell presentation. It IS totally voluntary. We opted to do it because they offered us $600 credit for the resort. So we took it. That was 2 hours we won't get back but it paid for our taxes and some other expenses we had.

More to come…

How many closers did you have to go through before being released from the time share thing ?

I truly love this resort. I cannot wait to bring back my family. Your review is spot on from what I experienced. I'll add I love the big rooms (although would be more beneficial if they had 2 queen beds and not 2 doubles). Water park is great for kids.

One in the room. Then they gave us back to the hotel staff who offered us an additional "gift" which was a week at a very reduced rate, which we did take advantage of. It was a good deal.

Then another closer was called in to "escort us" down to the cart. It was slick and I didn't see it coming.

This is true. We booked a presidential 2 bedroom suite with the little center living room for the 4 of us. It was more room than we needed but it was nice to have the space.

The rooms are significantly larger than any standard hotel room. You'll not feel cramped at all.

I'll give some general impressions of Restaurants:

Tavola - great pizza, everything else was just kinda meh.
Momo - (at Sunrise) good sushi and other Asian inspired food. Few things were meh but largely pretty good.
Los Tacos - Quite good. We ordered way too much, but the fish, shrimp, al pastor, roast pork chicharron and barbacoa were all very good. Skip the flautas and queso. The queso flameado wasn't great and flautas were less than stellar. Just order extra tacos. They're great!
Caribeño - outstanding breakfast buffet, very good lunch and dinner. Was a go-to for us.
The Grill - good food if you ordered correctly. Some different cuts than most Americans are used to. Ribeye is 10oz. You should understand that's gonna be a thin steak. Don't expect perfection RE doneness. Go with the flank. Yes it's a different cut than we think of when it comes to steak. It was great.
Habibi - best restaurant on property. We LOVED it. Ate there 4 times. Go have breakfast there too.
The Grand Buffet - Good all the way around. We're doing the dinner buffet tonight hoping this is where they have the seafood.
Gondola - (at Sunrise) not bad! Give it a try for nothing more than the beautiful ceiling.
Tapas Y Vino - eh… we weren't terribly impressed.
La Cantina - good breakfast buffet with unique stuff
Library Bar - loved this spot for after dinner drinks. Good menu and service.

We also ate at a number of snack bars and patisseries through out the property. All were good but the best coffee was by far the Sun Palace.

A couple we were either warned against or decided we didn't want to try:

Jade - we love the concept and menu looks great but every picture we saw on the Facebook group (and boy there were a lot) looked terrible. We decided not to try it. I presume it's similar to Momo, in which case it's ok but man the reviews and pictures from Momo were much much better.

La Chateau - almost universally not recommended. We did not give it a try.

JC Steakhouse - mixed reviews across the board, and again, every picture we saw looked awful. I'm a classical Texager I guess in that my backyard is my favorite steakhouse. I'm admittedly tough to please in that category. We didn't try it, but my inlaws did and they concurred. Terrible.

Missed this review. I think we're close to booking this resort for our family of 5. Ages: 7, 4, and almost 2 by the time the trip comes around.

For 5 night stay and Superior Family Suite it's $4500. About what we expected to pay so we can get the joint room. Question is, how do you know if you are in the Grand? I am assuming this isn't for that section. So if not, will the other areas be acceptable for them? We just want a good kids club and water slides. Thanks!

I may be in the minority but just don't get the hype on this place. I took my wife and 3 kids (14, 11, & 8) for a 7 day stay last June based on research and reviews & you couldn't pay us to go back. We stayed in the double room family suite. The rooms have a big step down and lots of wasted space due to the jacuzzis in both rooms. The beds are very small in case you think your are going to put two kids in a bed. They are not probably what most Americans are used to. . Food was above average for all inclusive. Our favorite was THe GrIll and would recommend the flank steak as mentioned above. Youngest kid liked the arcade and water park activity area. Despite being warned and going in with low expectations on the beach, it was worse than any of us imagined. Both sight and smell. The smell carried over to some of the pools. We did visit the sister property, Beach Palace, and the water was nicer but they were also dealing with seaweed. That resort had nicer water but was older and not as nice as the Grand Moon. Our conclusion was we could have taken our kids to Galveston for a lot less money and paid out of pocket for nice meals, drinks and activities to keep kids entertained. Wish someone would have told us instead of all the "top family resort" in Cancun stuff on the internet.

I agree on the beds. Sadly almost every resort has double beds and not queens. I can probably name 5 that I know have queens, most everything else are doubles. It's annoying even when there is room. We bring air mattresses for this reason.

We're also considering Planet Hollywood. I've heard mixed reviews on Moon. Just never know!

I've stayed there! I liked Grand better but the beach is a millions times better at PH. Food pretty good. Beautiful water. Large rooms. Most comfortable bed I've slept on at a hotel.
Pools are deep. My 11 year old (petite) couldn't stand in them. They spent a lot of time on the play scapes. I think 13+ might get bored as there isn't much for them to do. Lazy river is great. The slide is kind of dangerous - I hit the concrete ground going down every time and it wasn't pleasant.

Let me know if you have questions. All my clients have liked it too.
