Spending a quick weekend at the Excellence in Playa Mujeres. My understanding is they have quite a few restaurants. Are there any that I must try while there? My expectations on food are low since it's an all inclusive, but any pointers/tips on restaurants would be nice.

Excellence has good food, but don't expect the steaks to be incredible though. Nobody does that.

Barcelona is great for breakfast. The asian hibachi grille and the french restaurant are the best venues they offer. Barcelona for dinner and the spanish topas bar are close second tier.

At the swim up bar, ask for an iceberg. Its a frozen marg on top of a beer. Its awesome and goes down super easy on a hot day. Also, don't be afraid to call out specifically what liquors you want in your drinks. If you don't, they'll put the lowest grade stuff in it. Like for on the rocks margs I would request Don Julio and Gran Marnier. Those were awesome margaritas to line up and drink all afternoon.

Been a few times and we have always thought the Indian restaurant Basmati was the best of all of them.

Get a guided golf cart tour of the island if you've never been. They'll take you to all the best bars/restaurants to eat and drink all afternoon while not having to drive. There are some pretty good hole in the wall places you'd never go to as a tourist alone.

Excellence Playa Mujeres is north of cancun on the mainland, not on Isla Mujeres. But your point still stands.

The best excursion we took was the Excellence customer only giant catamaran trip out to the island. The island and the beaches were beautiful. Buy a bucket of beers and enjoy the beach, get your drunk self shipped back to the resort and drink some more.

Food is incredible at most of them. We favorited Agave and Toscana, personally.

Edit, our experience with the service was great as an additional thought. We were impressed, especially given it's an all inclusive. Bring some extra cash and tip them, they bust their ass for it.

We never had a bad meal there. I don't ever recall having to ask for Don Julio. It was used for all the drinks we had at the swim up bar. Great place.
