Kyu is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. You'll want a reservation multiple weeks out

Miami - Havana 1857 - get a cuban sandwich, ropa viejo, and a cuba libre.

Ft L - get a private cruise and marvel at the yachts as you cruise by within several yards. It is truly mind boggling the size of these private boats, mostly owned by foreign oligarchs and oil barons.

We've stayed in South Beach and Coral Gables. Little Havana is cool. Try a Frita and batida at El Rey de Las Fritas. We had a layover in Miami a couple of years ago and went to South Beach. Bad timing because it was hip-hop week and crowded af but we did end up at Havana 1957 which was a great place.

Another thumbs up for Havana 1857. Cool location and great food. In little Havana the place to eat is Versaille. Then visit the bakery next door for desert.

I would stay in Ft Lauderdale

We typically stay at Nobu or Eden Roc on Miami Beach. Things are still very much crowded right now and traffic getting in/off the island is especially bad. Last time we were there (mid March) it was typically a 30+ minute wait for an uber from the hotel anywhere around dinner time.

Worth noting, even at a high end hotel don't expect to receive the high end service you may be looking for regardless of what you are paying to be there. Nearly all of the hotels are booked to full capacity, but are still very much understaffed. Be patient and expect everyone to be on Miami time (late). Luckily DeSantis is ending their extra unemployment benefits so hopefully they can start to get staff back soon.

The absolute best Cuban food I had in Miami was at this hole in the wall restaurant near Wynwood called Rinconcito Latino Mixto. It was cheap, delicious, and big portions. Im sure theres better places in Little Havana but I wouldnt necessarily want to go to that neighborhood lol. Im Puerto Rican and it felt like I was eating at a place in Old San Juan.

Dont stay in South Beach. If you want to stay near the beach then go for Mid beach or North beach.

I love this part of your reply so I'll pitch in. If you are specifically asking places to eat then the answer isn't to stay in Fort Lauderdale. Pay extra, stay in Miami or South Beach. It's busier but Ft Lauderdale is further away than people think and it is just the beach... nothing else there really. North of Lincoln Road is the quieter end if you like that. Busier and rowdier is South of Lincoln Road.

Havana 1957. It's not terrible, but it's a local chain... wouldn't be a whole lot different than if somebody asked for BBQ recommendations and you recommended Papas in Houston, or Bill Miller's in San Antonio. If you've got a few days, it is totally worth it to go to Little Havana and check out La Caretta or Versailles one afternoon. If not, then just stay around Miami and South Beach... plenty there. In terms of places to eat, somebody already said Joe's Stone Crab. Bella Cuba is great as is Havana Vieja. Pubbelly, La Ventana, Yardbird. Few places I've been the last couple of times I was in Miami that I've really enjoyed.

I like to stay in Brickell (lived there for a couple of years). If you will have a rental car, it's an easy drive to the beach, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Little Havana, and the airport. You can walk to several bars/restaurants.

We visit Miami regularly (wife is half cuban and from the area). Last week we stayed 4 nights in Coconut Grove. Easy access to Key Biscayne for beaches (might look to stay there next time), way nicer than South Beach.

check out Cafe La Trova in little havana. They have nightly cuban music, awesome food and cocktails.
