I know I am likely screwed, but I thought I would asked for advice anyway.

My family and I (my parents, my family, and my brother's family) are traveling to Cancun over Thanksgiving. My parents and my family booked business class tickets sometime back on the 12:40 direct flight to Cancun. My brother booked the same flight at a later time (in economy). When we initially booked the flight, the plane was scheduled to be a 737. Thereafter, AA changed the plane to the 787 (sweet!) and I changed our seats for the new seat map.

I checked our reservations last night and noticed they had moved my husband and child to different seats apart from myself and my other child and separate from each other. I called my parents this morning and got their record locator number and found that they have been moved to a later flight. This is a huge problem because both my parents are handicapped and require some assistance. My parents' new flight has some availability, but the rest of the family would have split up on the flight. We both have kids. The original flight's business class is full.

AA had a schedule change of 10 minutes on our original flight and a change in flight number, but the plane is still a 787 so it has the same configuration.

I called AA spoke with the initial reservation agent and then his supervisor. They said there was a schedule change so there is nothing that they could do to get my parents on the original flight in business class. I asked why my parents had been bumped from the flight when they had the reservations and seat assignment for months. I also pointed out that the schedule change did not change the configuration of the plane and that there was no reason for my parents to be bumped from the flight. The agent said that when they were making the schedule change, some people must have reserved the new flight. Of course, I stated that they should not have affected the existing passengers and if you can bump existing passengers, you have the ability to bump new passengers. Needless to say I got nowhere. I think the only reason my parents got bumped is that they paid a cheaper rate since they booked so far in advance (likely different rate code).

Other than bending over and taking it, does anyone have some advice?

www.flyertalk.com has airline specific forums that may net you more traffic and answers to your question.

AA should do the right thing for your parents, but they likely will not. Good luck.
