All,

We are going to Napa 4/10-4/14 and will be going to the below wineries:

Thursday - Stags Leap, Odette, Jarvis, and Palmaz (Pumped about Palmaz and Odette)
Friday: Cakebread, Caymus, Inglenook, Del Dotto, and Chandon
Saturday - we only have booked Rutherford.

what other wineries do you recommend for Saturday? We favor Red wine over White.

Thanks for the help.

Have had clients go to and LOVED:

Aonair
V. Sattui
Andretti
Biale

Andretti and Biale are more your boutique wineries, smaller and more personable. We did a tour where lunch was included and ate outside at Andretti and it was absolutely stunning. It was so peaceful and beautiful, I cannot wait to go back.

Schramsberg is worth a visit. Traditional champagne method is used, cool cave tour. Reservation ahead of time required.

If you make it to Sonoma which isn't far at all, stop by Lasseter Family Winery. The wine is great! Actually getting our wine club shipment tomorrow. Can't wait!

Napa - Enjoyed Cliff Lede when we went. Great conversation and yummy wine.

If you can, see if you can get into Caldwell, and make that your last stop of the day. You won't be disappointed.

For Del Dotto - make sure you go to the caves instead of the tasting room. They're known for some heavy-handed pours.

Schramsberg is worth a visit if you're into bubbles.

Far Niente/Nickel & Nickel - same family - same ownership - meh tours. Very pretty, but the wines didn't do it for me, and that was with a hookup at FN...though if you can get in, the garage is incredible.

PlumpJack was a good tasting.

O'Brien is my favorite, if you can get in

All of these are larger production places. I would recommend Krupp Brothers for a change of pace (much smaller production than these places). Great wine, friendly people. It will be a very different experience than what you get at the places you have lined up.

Also, you might consider Chappellet. Not a small production place, but good wine and incredible views -- you'll see the valley from up on Pritchard Hill. The drive up there is nice as well.

Agreed. The larger places were cool but just not the same. We also visited Loxton wineries in Sonoma and sat down with the Australian owner to chat about making his port wines. Awesome guy and he even signed our bottle.

Thanks for the recs. We are also going to try to go by Waugh Family Winery. I heard the owners wife is an Aggie.

Shoot... what's the winery owned by an Aggie up there? Their guy recently posted his cell number for anyone that wanted to stop by and check it out.

I recall Hess being pretty cool. Nice art collection there. Best wine I've had is from Christopher Creek but that is near Healdsburg in Sonoma.

Grgich Hills was great and has some awesome wine. If you can get a slot at Kenzo, their tastings are really something.

Some good ones on here. I will second a few and throw out some others:

Frank Family - best thing about this place is the bang for buck. It's our most steadfast wine club solely for that reason.

Caldwell - best wine tour I've ever experienced but we also got to hang out with the owner for almost two hours doing a personal tasting. He loves Texans.

Cliff Lede - love their cab and just a fun place.

Cade - top of Howell Mountain. Incredible views and would check it out for that alone. Wine is good too though.

DR Stephen - extremely boutique. I'm not sure how you get in unless you have a personal connection. It's word of mouth only and the only reason we got in is because we happened to be with someone who knows them. You do the wine tasting in the owners dining room and hang out on his back porch which has an absolutely incredible view. I stepped into his personal wine room and it was something to behold. I'm only posting this one because maybe it's public now. I don't know.

We did not like Palmaz. The engineering marvel of their barrel room is pretty incredible, but the wine was way overpriced and they were very pushy and impersonal about buying it. This has been a few years though so maybe it has changed.

We just went to Lasseter. Holy cow. We lucked into everyone else on our tour canceling and got the whole place to ourselves. It. Was. Amazing. Highly recommend. Slow, easygoing, and clear that they do it the right way with attention to every detail.

Thanks, all, for posting about Lasseter and staring the post. Glad it pointed me that direction.

The reds are better at the wineries where the grapes come from the vineyards closest to the old volcano.
