I live in KC and looking to drop kids off with my Mom in DeSoto and then go to one of the Texas resorts near Austin/San Antonio...have a friends wedding in San Antonio and simply wanting a couple days to relax before.

Simply looking to enjoy relaxing time at the pool, spa, nice restaurants and minimal kids.

Thinking La Cantera looks nice, but I've never been and don't know other options.

As always, Texags knows and thanks for any advice!

JW gets a lot of love but La Cantera is super nice as well and a little cheaper. Less crowded imo as well

Hyatt hill country is my favorite in San antonio.

the JW Marriott is fantastic but it will be 99% kids with families in the summer.
Would definitely go with La Cantera.

Hyatt Hill Country is my favorite as well, and it has an adults-only pool/lounging area so that was really nice and quiet.
La Cantera is also a wonderful choice for a hill country resort.
JW Marriott is huge and lots of kiddos running around during the summer so be prepared for that.

Sounds like La Cantera is the place for us.

We love kids, but dropping our off in DeSoto and wanting to refresh.

Hoping the pools, restaurants and spa are fantastic.

I love the spa at La Cantera. You can buy a day pass and hang out there all day (don't have to book a treatment). I also really like the little casita rooms they have on the property. They have their own pool/bar area, and they give you a golf cart to drive while you're there. Feels very different and private compared to the rooms in the main hotel.

Stay on SEVEN at La Cantera. Complimentary valet parking, complimentary access to the spa facilities, complimentary continental-style breakfast in the morning and Happy Hour in the evening; all on an adult-only floor.

See about getting a room with a full balcony overlooking San Saba Plaza and/or surrounding hill country.

For those of you who have stayed at La Cantera. Is the 7th floor (adults only) worth the upgrade?

Could I get an upgrade with a smile and a $100 bill at check in?

Depending on when you are going, you might get a good deal on Expedia. Or, they'll be more than happy to upgrade you at the front desk, based on availability. Paid upgrades are per night.

My wife and I went in April with 300 of her coworkers. We didn't stay on the 7th floor and there weren't any loud kids around us (I don't remember any kids...). Depending on when you travel, I don't see a reason to pay a premium for that.

There were parties in a couple of the villas. I don't know the price difference or your budget, but they were pretty awesome. They were far from the pools, but you could get a ride on one of the golf carts.

No idea if a smile and a tip works...

Saw this today when looking around for a short getaway with the wife. Which room did you stay in? Anything else that makes it a good stay? Thanks.

I looked back in my emails. I booked the Hays Room but I recall when I got there I got a different room.

The food was the best part. They have an amazing chef that grows his ingredients in a garden on site. I recall I had the best quail I have ever had.

The room I was in had a shower that overlooked the creek. Great view while showering. Don't worry the bottom 4 or 5 feet of the shower is frosted so you aren't exposed. Also had a very large whirlpool bathtub.

They also have nature hikes throughout the property and along the creek. Which is much larger than I imagined when I heard the word creek.

I didn't use the pool. I think they had washer or horseshoe pits too. But it was just me and my wife so we didn't play. Definitely would've drank some beer and thrown some washers/horseshoes if I would've had a buddy with me.
