We're scheduled to go in late July and you hear reports about actual conditions in the city as far as safety and no-go zones and all that. What's it really like over there right now? How do I find out which sections of the city to stay away from?

Went in 2016 and had a blast. If it looks shady walk away and stay in tourist areas.

Just act like you would in any big city. Have fun and don't embarrass us. Also rule # 1.

Read your guide book and have fun in the areas of interest it points you.

Use the same caution you would exercise in any large city.

I don't always advise to stay in the touristy areas, but you have to utilize common sense.

Yeah just another large city. Try to look like you belong, but I don't remember any area I felt unsafe when we went 1 year ago.

Sounds good. Thanks. Believe me, we take great pains to not stand out like so many loud, obnoxious Americans you see when overseas.

My daughter did her study abroad there fall semester. The places that are the issues tend to be in the suburbs. In the traditional tourist part of the city you should be find.

Although it sounds lame, do the sewer tour. Was actually pretty cool!

I think there are more no go zones around DFW than Paris.

I was there for 2 weeks in 2015. It's fine for the most part. You do have you keep your eye out for pickpockets, though.

I took the Metro all over the city and never had any problems, but my coworker did stop a purse snatching on the metro. Just as the doors were closing this guy grabbed a woman's purse and tried to jump out. But my friend grabbed the purse too and he was a lot bigger than the thief. Thief let go.

Oh, and don't just leave your cell phone sitting out unattended on the table when you're out. Apparently that's a good way to lose it.

Other than that, I walked all over the place buy myself and felt safe.

Went last summer and had a blast. We are going back this summer for a couple of days to visit an old friend. Some of the burbs look super sketchy. We stayed in the good part of town and it was mostly fine.

A couple of events worth noting ...
The day before we visited Notre Dame a terrorist attacked a policeman with a hammer. I think that they sent him to meet Allah.

The day before we left there was an altercation between another terrorist and a policeman on the champ de elysee. He was shot and killed on the spot. Really high security in the airport after those events.

The only place that I didn't hang out long was the park in from of the Eiffel Tower. The aggressive junk peddlers have overrun the park.

We were there last year and stayed downtown. No issues at all. They were prepping for Bastille day, so it was slightly crowded.

Suggest the Rick Steves narrated app. All of us had it on our phone and it was worth it to hit the highlights.

If you're going to be there at least a week, get the Pass Navigo Decouverte. It's the best metro deal. Hell, if you're there for 5 days, do it. It's still a better deal. Then get a Paris Museum Pass.

Don't do the Paris Visite. It's a worse deal by a lot.

Btw, check out L'Orangerie. It's got Monet's full Water Lillies and it's free with the Museum Pass

Went to Paris in March. No problems at all. We did meet some Americans that were in Paris about 10 minutes before the wife got her wallet pick-pocketed. Be very careful with pick-pockets in touristy areas.

There for 2 days in April 2018. Mostly business meetings... No problems... Food is great. Wine is better!

I was in Paris this week for a couple of days. There were definitely a lot more sketchy characters walking around than when I was there 10 years ago. I had to wrestle with some idiot girl when I was exiting the metro who wanted a free ride. I've also spent time in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and London in past month and none of them had near the sketchy feel that Paris had. That being said, I enjoyed my few days there and would recommend going. If you go be prepared to forceful with any unsavory characters who come up to you. Most will move onto easier targets if they know you mean business.
