The gf and I are wanting to get out of town this month for a quick 5-6 day getaway. I figured these 2 places would be good candidates for a quick, relatively inexpensive beach vacation. Neither one of us has ever been to either. What are the pros and cons to one or the other? Or is there another option that we should take a look at? We mainly want to relax/hang at the beach/massages/good food etc.

Tulum is up and coming. There is one main road where you'll see a couple dozen smaller hotels. They aren't massive resorts like what you might find elsewhere.

I'm not sure which is cheaper. I seriously enjoyed Ja****a Hotel but it was far from the touristy part of Tulum which is where you'll find most of the hotels.

Depends on how you define "beach vacation". Cabo has cold pacific waters and you can't get in the water if you are west of the main marina in Cabo San Lucas. The beaches are fine, but different than the atlantic side of Mexico. I would venture to say there is way more to do in Cabo- restaurants, nightlife, fishing, shopping etc. We have a place in Cabo, but I have never been to Tulum.

I don't consider Cabo to be too relaxing. It's fun and we enjoyed it but it's loud, busy, people everywhere and tons to do. We golfed, fished, bar hopped, etc. It's more of a party, have fun, do whatever trip.

Never done Tulum but we Isla Mujeres and it's way more relaxing. It's more lay on a hammock, sit on the beach, quiet unwind vacation. Seemed much more go at your own pace than Cabo.

Cabo or anyplace for that matter is what YOU want it to be. We relax in Cabo frequently.

Ditto.

If you cant relax in cabo you are staying at the wrong places.
Some of the best resorts in the world are in cabo.. this should not be an issue.
