My wife and I have been doing some traveling the last few years and actually just got back from Hawaii yesterday. It's been really cool to see the difference in sand/rock at different beaches. I want to put together some sort of map display with sand from all the locations we have been but unfortunately I just now thought of it and only have sand from north shore Oahu. If anyone is going to the following locations this year I would love to get a handful of sand from each one.
St. Lucia - we stayed at Sandles LaToc but I won't be picky
Positano, Italy - really fine dark rocks. Unbelievable views of the city. Regret only being here one night.
Nice, France - fist size rocks, would only need a few of the smaller ones
Monte Carlo, Monaco - small pebbles. Beautiful city view and beach
Cannes, France - I don't remember this one that well. Seemed like just normal sand.
Barcelona, Spain - cold when we went so didn't spend much time at the beach.
Rome, Italy. Not really a beach but if someone got sand from the Colosseum that would be really cool.

I live on the north side of Houston and would be willing to trade rides to/from IAH in exchange for being able to cross a location off my list.

My father in law did this with his then wife.. they just brought back sand and a shell, rock or other small memento, and put them in jars like below. They had about 15-20 of them. (They did a lot of cruises). It was pretty cool idea I thought

Going to St. Lucia in a few months for my Honeymoon. We may be able to bring something back.

What did you think of St. Lucia, any suggestions/highlights?

St Lucia was beautiful. We will certainly go back once the kids are old enough to leave for a week.

Honestly the best advice I can give is to take all your cards from your wedding with you. Our planner gave us a bag with all of them as we pulled out and said we would thank her later. Needless to say we did a lot of extra excursions with the cash in those cards. We did a catamaran ride out past the Pitons with a snorkel trip and mud bath included. The mud bath was kind of weird but unique. The zip line tour was pretty cool too.

The best thing we did was drop $400 on a helicopter ride from the resort to the airport. I slipped the guy an extra $10 to put us in the front and the view was amazing. It was expensive for a 20 minute ride but one of my aunts gave us $200 and wrote on the bill "for the helicopter" so we had to do it. So glad we did.

If you're in Houston and want to bring back some sand that would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding.

I do this.... Get a little sand and a sea shell or two - I put them in clear Christmas ornaments that I get at Hobby Lobby. Then I add the location and the date on the ornament. I have a Cricut, so I cut the lettering out of vinyl, but you can buy stick on lettering.

This one isn't mine, but I'm totally copying the design for our next vacation.

I've been doing this since I was 15. I have around 25 glass jars displayed in our office. I think the only US one is Hawai'i. Ive collected that and currency from everywhere we go.

I guess y'all missed the memo on "Take only pictures, leave only footprints".

I strongly recommend that you do not advertise that you're doing this. The USDA is going to have a big problem with this and if you travel through countries like New Zealand, you might wind up with a heavy fine.

Meh, the amount of sand I have to wash off my scuba equipment when I get home covers the amount I need. Never had a single issue traveling home.
