I'll be going for a week in late April for work and taking my wife. What is there for her to do while I'm at all day conferences? What about for both when I get out late afternoons?

Lots of good walking tours around town. Bonaventure cemetery is worth checking out.

Mrs. Wilk's boarding house,
River street,
the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist,
City Market,
Bonaventure cemetery

The squares are great....

Hee were my notes on eateries before we went:

Lunch
For lunch it looks like Mrs Wilke's Boarding House/Dining Room (lunch only) is a must

For Dinner:
The Old Pink House looks like #1
Sit in the piano bar downstairs to get the local Savannah flavor (she-crab soup, shrimp and grits) without the fine-dining fuss. 23 Abercorn Street; 912/232-4286

Elizabeth's on 37th

Sapphire Grill

Garibaldi's

Noble Fare

Vic's on the River
Great atmosphere on Savannah River! Loved the outdoor seating options!

We ate at the Old Pink House.....fantastic

The trolley tour is best way to see the entire city at your own pace. Get off at only the stops you want and spend as much time at each one as you'd like . Just get another car when you're ready.

We also did a late night ghost tour in a Hearst with the roof chopped off. Was pretty cool to ride in and pretty interesting info at all the spooky spots around town.

Tiby Island is a must. Visit the lighthouse and walk to the top.

I've got some food recs once I get off mobile I'll post up here.

Wife and I were there with the in-laws and they aren't into spending money on food so we only had a couple meals on our own that were worth recommending. Still upset we didn't get to Pink House, but don't get me started.

J Christophers - Great breakfast/brunch spot down by Colonial Park Cemetery. Get there early.
Kevin Barry's Irish Pub - Cool little pub down on River Street with live Irish music. We stayed away from the typical bar food and had some of the authentic Irish fair which was actually pretty good. Cool place that's worth at least a stop for drinks
Corleone's - Casual Italian which is not what I would've picked but man it was pretty good. Nice patio to sit out and enjoy a bottle wine and dinner.

We ate at a few other places like the Moon River Brewery, The Distillery, and Goose Feathers. All were pretty meh and I could have found that kind of food anywhere. Not bad but not what I would be seeking out while on vacation. Avoid Leopold's Ice Cream. The line was down the street and it was VERY underwhelming. People there swear by it, but I guess if you don't have Blue Bell you don't know good ice cream. Not worth it

We also made a side trip to Tybee Island for the day to see the lighthouse and museum. Rain got us and we didn't get to see Fort Pulaski.

Sundae Cafe - If you're in Tybee this is the place to eat. Great, fresh seafood in a casual atmosphere. Some of the best fried shrimp I've ever had. Must stop

I will completely disagree with one of the non recs...Leopold's Ice Cream was one of the best places we have visited for an ice cream parlor. It is ranked usually in the top 20 annually and even though I agree with the line out the door IMO it is much better than most shops and that is including Blue Bell.

I would add the Old Pink House and Mrs. Wilkes Boarding as places to eat.

Everything else to me from our visit was spot on from the above post

Edit to add...I think the tour we had was Savannah Rambles with Dirk I will double check but one of the best walking tours I have ever taken

Kevin Barry's is a cool place. We did a walking 'ghost' tour and with the open carry laws, we walked around with a beer, so grab a drink at a close bar before you leave.

It's generally humid as hell, so be ready for that.

Just got back from a week at Savannah and Charleston. Just about everything has been mentioned but I have VERY BAD NEWS.

You may see on the news of a severe seafood shortage for the east coast. I'm sorry. My bad.
