Anyone going?

I am going to Vegas that weekend. I have not booked my room and just found out they are 4 times the normal price. Even the downtown Hotels have increased prices

Is it worth going to Vegas when they have a big boxing match ?

If you're going there because of the boxing match, sure. I went there a few years ago and there was a big fight I didn't know about and it sucked. It was like New Years Eve crowded.

I'm a sucker for prize fights. This is a bucket list fight for me. If the wife comes through, I'll be on here *****ing and moaning for the next two years about the things we can't do because we're paying this one off

I've never been to a fight in Vegas (or anywhere).

I don't understand your question....

are you going regardless? Or are you wondering if it would be better if you canceled and went a different time?

fight weekend are TERRIBLE if you're not there for the fight.

Booked 4 comped nights and reserved flights when the first rumors of the May 2nd date were floated....can't wait to get out their for the circus atmosphere...

I booked my flight 4 months ago. I do not plan on going to the boxing match.

Yes I am thinking about going a different weekend.

Update: I can stay at a Condo on Dean Martin Ave. Now I plan on going just to see the circus. I guess there will be a lot of high rollers and celebrities in town. Just wondering what to expect that weekend.

So u have to drive to the casinos? Even worse. Boxing and NYE is truly a nightmare.

I would go a different weekend. It's going to be so insanely crowded and expensive. I bet all the casinos raise their minimums too. Go on a weekend when you can have an awesome time without the hassle.

I'd avoid it unless you are really into boxing and want to be there during a fight weekend. And this is not just any other fight weekend.

Huge sports weekend: NBA playoffs, Kentucky derby and now the fight. Not to mention all the people there for Cinco de mayo ( not a big crowd but will still bring some people to party).

Was in Vegas during the Marquez v Pacquiao fight, and as always there were a couple of conventions going on also. It was really busy. Hard to find a table to play at. So if you arent into gambling that much it will be ok. Great weekend though for sports betting.

Went to Marquez/Pacquaio. Best sporting event I've ever been to. Insane atmosphere. LV, wasn't too crowded then, although I understand this is a bigger fight.

I heard you can't view the fight live in LV outside of the MGM properties. Any truth to that?

$25 tables will be the min on the strip that weekend....if not higher.

Nom De,
Which Pacquiao/Marquez fight did you go to?

Have you ever watched boxing live before? Unless you are close to the ring...it's tough to beat Boxing on tv.

If you haven't booked the room and aren't actually going to the fight I'd skip it. I don't see the value in paying New Years Eve (and then some) prices just to be in the place where the fight is taking place. The crowds will be ridiculous that weekend.

If you don't have tickets to the fight or to one of the MGM hotel viewing parties then you're not watching the fight anywhere on the strip, they black it out

This. I've been to a couple of fairly big fights in Vegas and we were not really close to the ring....it wasn't that great.

I was in town for Pacquiao/De la Hoya and Manny was hanging out, having breakfast and coffee, at the Starbucks in Mandalay the morning after stomping a mudhole in Oscar. I was standing in line, look down at the table next to me, and "hey, that's Pac Man." Nobody was bothering him. I'm sure he won't be able to do the same thing the morning after this fight.

Just out of curiosity, why would Vegas be overly packed for a fight that is happening at 1 casino and shown at a few casinos? Seems like just another weekend in Vegas. What would draw everyone else to Vegas that weekend other than fight enthusiasts?

Not sure about a fight but I was in Vegas all last week and was amazed at the number of people who were there to watch the NCAA tourny

Vegas on a holiday/ufc/boxing weekend can get very crowded. There are lines for everything. Events draw people to the hoopla.

I guess my point is its always like that on weekends in Vegas, there's always something going on there. I would predict that other than the mgm casinos, it will be similar to other weekends everywhere else around town.

Not a good prediction.

Mayweather/Pachquiao and the Kentucky Derby on the same day is a bit more than an average weekend.

I've been to Vegas for Super Bowl, Rodeo Finals, fight weekend, ncaa tourney, etc.. I've never been on Nye. I guess my "typical" expericence is Vegas is always packed, and underestimated this fight from a weekend where none these other things are happening. I wasnt aware that the Derby was the same weekend. My bad and I never said I would bet on it....I will be there that weekend and let you know how "terrible" it is. I will gaurantee you that I will be having a great time like I always do.

Because there are a few hundred thousand curious folks like Mudcat that want to go just to say they were there for fight weekend. I'm not a big boxing fan, but this fight does have me curious. But, I certainly am not thinking about doing what it takes to be there during the weekend. Hell, I ain't even going to pay the $75 or whatever pay-per-view premium the fight is drawing. I'll watch it on Showtime in two years.

I can't imagine that you'd run into a celebrity just walking down the strip. Those folks don't hang out where you and I do, by in large. If they do, there are huge crowds around them. Maybe some folks want to wiggle into the crowd surrounding Ben Affleck at the high limit craps table, ten people deep. But not me.

Sure, you may see Oscar de la Hoya at Starbucks sipping on a low-fat caramel macchiato nibbling on a cheese danish. But chances are you won't.

We are in Vegas right now and there is controversy here that the fight may not take place because a contract wasn't signed by both parties.

a lot if fun if you're up for it, plan in advance, and are willing to throw around some cash. The clubs on NYE are crazy expensive, so we went with getting ****housed and people watching all night.

Nothing like a big fight weekend in Vegas. I did the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight in 2007. It was a zoo in Vegas that weekend, and I'd never seen anything like it. I seriously saw a celebrity or pro athlete everywhere I went the entire weekend. After the fight ended, my then girlfriend and I had dinner reservations at Tao.

The table ten yards away from us consisted of Jay-Z, Diddy, Usher, Will Ferrell, Mary J. Blige, Ashanti, Jerome Bettis, Borat, Macy Gray and tons of big names that were there for dinner after the fight.

This fight is going to make that one look like childs play. Get your cameras ready.
