Going to Scotland soon, any suggestions on sites and restaurants in Elgin, Aberdeen, St. Andrews, and Edinburgh? We already have the Highlander Inn and St. Andrews Castle Course on the list.

Would love suggestions!

Be sure to stop at the Dunvegan Hotel next to the Old Course in St. Andrews, owned by Jack Willoughby '72. You'll see the Century Club sticker on the door.

Make sure to grab a couple of pints on top floor of old course hotel overlooking the course. Lots of good restaurants on The royal mile in edinborough.

Elephant House in Edinburgh - where JK Rowling began writing HP. Great food and coffee.
Scottish Whisky Museum on the Royal Mile
Edinburgh Castle (duh)
Calton Hill - nice little hike up and great views of the city from the top

Thanks guys, I had a lot of these things on different lists, but not they are officially on the itinerary. And we're actually going to Craigellaiche instead of Elgin if anyone has any suggestions there!

The Macallan Distillery is in Craigellaiche, and Aberlour isn't far away. If you're a whisky guy, I'd suggest doing a tour of on or both of those. It's also not far from Dufftown. We did a walking distillery tour there in September and loved it.

While in Edinburgh, be sure to tour the Holyrood Palace, and check out the attached Queen's Museum, if you care for art. A great place to dine is The Witchery at the Castle, which is right outside the main entrance to the castle, and also very close to the Whisky Heritage Centre (a great place for high tea, Scottish-style!). The Palm Court in the Balmoral Hotel is also a very nice place for high tea, Scottish-style. As previously mentioned, The Royal Mile has lots of interesting places.

When traveling between Aberdeen and Edinburgh, consider stopping at Scone Palace and Glamis Castle. They are both very interesting places, and will be right on your way.

Restaurants that I've been to in St. Andrews that I would recommend - Little Italy, Forgans, Mitchell's, The Grange Inn.

Pubs - The Central, The Jigger Inn, The Criterion, The Keys

Have not been but need to - St. Andrews Brewing Company.

You have to take a drink at The Dunvagen as mentioned earlier - tell Jack and Sheena hi

If you are there on Sunday the Old Course is closed so you can walk it.

Other thoughts - if you are near Anstruther stop in at the Fish market for the best fish and chips in Scotland.

The Famous Grouse experience is a good place to visit for scotch tasting - it's at the Glenturrent Distillery whcih is the oldest in Scotland.

I'm going fly fishing in Perth next week (River Tay). I'll let you know if I see or do anything exceptional. I'm driving there from Cologne, Germany (where I live).

Sandy Bell's Pub in Edinburgh. In the back of the bar local musicians of all ages gather and play traditional Scottish music. We spent 9 nights in Edinburgh and it was by far the most memorable Scottish experience we had.

While in Edinburgh, I recommend taking a your o the underground world there. They used to have people who would do basically black market business underneath the town in caves. Really interesting place.
