Hello Travel board!

My wife and I will be having our first child in August and we would really like to take one last trip together before baby comes. We are beach bums and love the Caribbean/Yucatan, but I'm worried about travelling overseas while the wife is pregnant...

So my question to the board - have any of you traveled to the Caribbean/Yucatan while pregnant? Should I be worried about it? Are there any places you would recommend over others?

Also - where are some cool places in the US that we should consider for a babymoon? We usually go to Gulf Shores for our domestic beach trips but I would love to try some new areas. We are both in our mid twenties and live in DFW if that makes any difference.

I'd shoot for a place with no drinking water concerns and a direct flight. Other than that I would highly suggest it. We didn't take any trips last year in your same situation and wish we had.

Same boat as you (beach bums expecting our 1st in aug.), however we're just settling on one of the resorts in the hill country: JW, lostpines, horseshoe bay,etc.

My wife and I went to Cancun while she was pregnant. No issues, had a great time. If I recall correctly she was about 5 months along at the time.

Enjoy it. I have a 10 month old and vacations seem like a distant memory.

Our third is due in August. Anyone want to watch our other two so we can escape for a week or ten before the baby is born?

Took the wife to Costa Rica for 10 days when she was 5 months pregnant...bounced that baby all over that country. You will be fine - just go and enjoy yourselves

When my wife was pregnant we took a cruise in the North Sea all over Northern Europe. It was a great time. Go wherever you want but don't wait too much longer. Take advantage of being able to go in non peak season.

When I think of overseas I usually think of Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. I don't think I'd classify Caribbean/Yucatan as overseas even though you're technically flying over water. With that said if it's a normal pregnancy you shouldn't worry. I just flew from Houston to South Korea a couple weeks ago with my wife when she was 34 weeks pregnant.

Our 10 month still isn't sleeping through the night. We are planning on taking a quick vacation to Chicago this summer and I'm sure by then, he will be.

We're going to Mexico in a few weeks for ours. Staying at Excellence Cancun.

Depends on how far along she is, and if she's an at risk pregnancy. Hopefully you've discussed this with your OB.

With our first, when my wife was 6 months pregnant, we went to France/Italy/Switzerland.

My wife and I went to Kauai and stayed at a Vacation Rental on the beach for our Babymoon, really glad we went. Still like to tease our son that he went to Hawaii (though we will take him there someday).

I would steer clear of a cruise.

I can't imagine too many things worse than a pregnant woman with norovirus.

I think on every cruise I have been (multiple lines and not Carnival), the bathrooms smell like piss.

Just want to say thank you to everyone who chimed in. I got over my irrational fear of travelling while the wife is pregnant and we just booked a 7 night stay in Mexico! I'm really looking forward to some lazy beach time before our little one comes along.

We're staying at a pretty new place - Royalton Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos... I'll be sure to update the board and let you all know how it is!

To me, part of the fun of going to Mexico is all of the drinking. Since she can't do that, you might want to discuss that angle.... We went to Hawaii for ours, the flight was a little long for her at 24 weeks Pregnant as she was having back issues.

The wife doesn't really like to drink much anyways, so the lack of alcohol for her on this trip is a non-factor. I on the other hand will have two drinks in my hands at all times.

dont let the kiddo slow you down!! We have already done 3 weekend getaways to the mountains, and we're going to Houston/Lafayette next week, a week in aruba in May, a 3 night weekend in Estes park in May and a week in breckenridge in October.
Baby is 4 months old now.

But he's slept through the night since ~10 days old, so that helps. But you dont have to fly far and be gone a week to feel like a vacation.
