SIL is pregnant and my BIL, some friends, and I want to do a guys trip before all that goes down. This will be a Friday-Sunday between now and August (we all have football season tickets to various schools so the Fall is out).

Ideas we have so far:

Vegas
Lake Charles (L'Auberge)
Austin/Tubing
Deep Sea Fishing
Camping (although going to be too hot anywhere around here)
New Orleans

Any other ideas? Specificity is appreciated if you have something particular in mind.

I hear Colombia is good if you want to throw away $800 a night.

For a guys trip, I'd say Vegas or NO.

Go to Port Aransas, Fish on Saturday, play 2 rounds of golf at Newport Dunes on Sunday.

Memphis. Beale Street is like Bourbon Street but with barbecue instead of Cajun food and blues instead of jazz.



I'd prefer NOLA over Memphis if anyone hasn't been before but Memphis is a nice change of pace.

Personally, I don't like Colorado, but it might be a good trip to beat the heat for a bit. Pretty much anywhere on the west coast would be a whole lot cooler than Texas during that time frame. Look at Portland or Seattle, both are really cool towns. If you're really feeling like doing it up, head to Alaska for some fishing.

Again, this is a Friday-Sunday (Thursday aft-Sunday at the most), so Alaska is out. If we had longer, Alaska would definitely be right there.

All the guys going have very young time-demanding kids so the hall passes are only good for a long weekend

Float the Guad? Stay at a cabin on the guad grill drink heckle people in the river?

Go on a micro-brewery tour of Seattle or rent a house in Cape Cod.

I've done a few of these trips recently. Last year we left Fri and ate lunch in Lockhart (BBQ at Smitty's), then ended up at the Shiner Brewery for the tour. Drank and played pool at a dive bar in Shiner, then drove on into New Braunfels. Went to some live music bar that night with lots of coeds. Woke up, golfed at the muni near the Wurstfest grounds, then floated the river that afternoon. Ate at Gristmill and had a beer at Gruene Hall before we were all smoked. Drove slowly back to Dallas on Sun with one lost wedding ring, one cuncussion and a few lost articles of clothes (on the river....as required).

I've also done a trip to Port Lavaca and chartered a fishing boat for reds and trout. Rented a house near the water. The BBQ trail is always an option with lodging in downtown Austin. Mexico (Acuna)used to be on my list but it's too damned dangerous these days. Fly to El Paso and drive the 1.5 hours up to Ruidoso. Do the horse races, good golf and casinos where it's 70 degrees while we are dying in the 100's.

Awesome place. Great to grill out, sit by the fire pit, drink, throw horseshoes and you can get out on the lake or golf course if necessary.

Log Country Cove is great spot. You can rent a boat from them for a reasonable rate also. If tubing, Rio Raft is pretty good near Satler, get a cabin right on the river. River flow may be a concern though, not sure. A guided bay fishing trip out of rockport or Port O'Connor could be good too. Plenty of good VRBO rentals at either place. If POC, Josie's enchiladas FTW.

Just got back from a guys trip, went to Chicago for baseball, then got a car and headed to Milwaukee for more baseball. Lots of fun, would do it again

Yeah, I've thought of that, but the guy who is having the kid doesn't really like baseball. Football and outdoors are his thing. Too bad because it's the perfect opportunity to do something like the above poster's trip

We did a guys trip a few years ago and rented a bad a** houseboat on Lake Amistad. We towed a 21 ft skiff behind us and had a great time. Beautiful lake with some great fishing. Don't worry about all that Mexican cartel stuff.
I also want to do a Devil's river canoe trip in that area at some point.

Did the L'Aubarge guys trip a few weeks ago. Casino is good, pool is good, food is meh. Make sure and schedule a "poker face" shave.

Taos/Santa Fe: white-water rafting trip

For me, and I'm on the OTHER side of kids so my perspective is a lot different, a perfect guys weekend is a house out in the country with a pond or lake for fishing, horse shoes, beer, barbecue, and a round or two of golf. I have no interest in going clubbing on the strip or Bourbon Street.

Actually, now that I think about it, I never really liked that all that much.

trout fishing and golf in arkansas...we go annually to the Rainbow Drive resort on the White river.

Rent jeep and go rock crawling, rent ATVs and run some trails, and then do some whitewater rafting.
