Alright, found some award room, and I'm going to Copenhagen. I get there May 24 and fly out the 29th. On that Sunday, I'd like to rent a car and drive to either Oslo or Stockholm to stay a night (I love driving in foreign countries, and I figure the scenery driving up the Swedish coast to Oslo would be pretty sweet), then drive back to Copenhagen and leave from there.

Anyone been? Thoughts? Recommendations? I'll be traveling alone.

Really interested in whether I should go to Oslo or Stockholm, Google says they're about the same driving distance away.

Take the ferry from Cope to Oslo. It's more like a cruise ship that takes you overnight. I partied in the disco with some Norwegian students well into the night, then back to their room. When I finally laid my head down on my bunk, the captain came on the PA announcing our arrival.

The drive for me is almost as fun as getting to the destination, so that's the reason I'd like to take the long drive.

Well I have never done a drive there but I would guess that the drive to Oslo would be nicer because it would be along the coast.
I have been to both Copenhagen and Stockholm and enjoy the cities though.

Alternatively if you are more interested in nature and scenery, maybe spend the day at kosterhavet.

We just got back from visiting Copenhagen, Oslo, the fjords, and Stockholm and I'll tell you hands down pick Stockholm over Oslo, no question. Oslo was unimpressive and my wife was a little creaped out. Stockholm was absolutely beautiful! Lots to see and do. Only go through Oslo as a gateway for geting to the fiords of Norway which I'd highly recommend if you have time. Google "Norway in a Nutshell" tour to see what I'm talkig about. Some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.

Exactly right ReloadAg! Spot on and couldn't agree more. Stockholm is awesome. My first trip to Oslo was boring and just an overnight on way to Bergen for fjord tour. Next year went back to Oslo and it was better but no where near as good as Stockholm.

If you do go to Stockholm, I'd definitely not miss the Vasa Museum. It's one of the coolest museums I've ever been to.

I'll third that Stockholm >Oslo. I only spent an afternoon in Oslo and don't feel like I missed anything.

I spent months in oslo for work... Saw all the sights to really see in the first weekend. There are plenty of outdoor activities to have a good time, but overall Stockholm is a much cooler city.

Haven't been to Stockholm but did spend several weeks in Norway (plus a couple of days in Helsinki). I liked Bergen better than Oslo. We really enjoyed the city. Just a neat old, very manageable city. Enjoy.

Ok, now I think I'm going to fly from Copenhagen to Bergen and back so I can get my fjord on.

+1 for the Vasa Museum in Stockholm and the big open air museum there is nice too. Oslo was just OK for us, but we were there at the end of a two week trip to Norway. The first week we spent fishing about 3 hours east of Trondheim, then drove and ferried our way from there to Oslo. Difficult to compare a city to all the natural beauty of the Norwegian countryside. One thing: Sweden is expensive, Norway even more so. However, both trips were worth it for us.
Story from Stockholm: we were in the tourist center close to the train station downtown and a guy got his backpack lifted, tried to stop the thief, and got knocked out for his troubles. This happened in the middle of a crowded business.

+1 for your decision on Bergen. Absolutely beautiful coastal city. You should be able to get some amazing sunset pics there. If you are a bit adventurous with food, go to some of the kiosks by the small harbor near the old town, where you can try whale meat.
