I had flights on American from DFW to Miami, then Miami to Liberia, Costa Rica (and back) cancelled and switched to Continental flights through Houston this weekend due to the Miami Airport fuel depot fire.

Do I still get that credit on my advantage miles account, or do I miss it because I rode on Continental? Any idea how long I have to wait to see it come through my Advantage Account?

you could always contact them and ask for "original route credit." no guarantees that it will be granted though.

I'm thinking you will...but I have no idea. Be happy the flights should be quicker now...

Beating us by one week... Leaving for Liberia on April 10th for our honeymoon...

agdaddy, are you going to Tamarindo? Have a great time!

I was happy the trips were shorter, but I would have just booked the continental flights if it weren't for the mileage - and the trip was cheaper through AA.

Yes we sure are... well 20 minutes away from Tamarindo.

Oh and we're flying AA out of DFW - direct flight. How much were the flights on Continental?

Lucky bastage! Round-trip for two (DFW-IAH-LIR) was $1400.

How'd you find a direct flight from DFW to Liberia, Costa Rica on AA? I never saw one of those.

I never saw anything that wasn't direct. I think with taxes it was around $1400 as well. Leave at 10am DFW and arrive 1245pm in LIR - which I think they're an hour behind us because they don't go on daylight savings time... It's a surprise for my fiancee - I'm extrememly excited. Can't wait for the look on her face when she first sees that we're flying to Liberia.

just stumbled upon this while searching for something else...in case this question is still open -

quote:
No mileage credit will be awarded for canceled flights. Technically, mileage credit is also not awarded if you are accommodated on another airline, however, many FTers have successfully requested "Original Routing Credit due to an Involuntary Reroute". Some suggest that proactively having a note with this phrase placed in your PNR at the time of rebooking may assist you with your subsequent Miles Credit Request.

I went ahead and emailed the Advantage people and they said I would receive credit. But it hasn't posted yet. I think they still have a few days. so we'll see.

I have accumulated 75k miles from signing up for AA credit cards through Citi. I haven't used any of the miles. If I cancel the credit card, do I lose the miles?

You won't lose the miles. I usually keep the cards open for at least six months as to not damage your relationship with the bank. There are usually more offers you'll want to take advantage of. Some banks have banned people who chase bonuses too often.

Good deal. I've kept the cards for over a year (and not had to pay a fee)...it's time to cancel them and sign up for another one...they're offering 40k miles.

You can't get new ones until 18 months after your previous acceptance.

Don't tell AA/Citi that...my wife and I both got two cards within 6 months of each other. One was Amex the other MC.

If it is a different card, I do not think that is an issue...we did the same.

Me too. I currently have the Visa, MC, and Amex. I'm about to cancel the Visa and Amex and reapply, since it's been 18 months, and get the bonuses again.

Having my AAdvantage balance under 100k miles makes me nervous...
