Roatan, Honduras or Puerto Vallarta, Mexico?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Planning a long weekend trip for my husband in the middle of July. He's been working insane hours on a project the past few months, so he could really use some R&R.

Looking at either Roatan (Infinity Bay resort) or Puerto Vallarta (Villa Premiere resort). Haven't been to either location before, so wanted to get some input. Basically, we want to eat, drink and relax. Villa Premiere is all-inclusive, but Infinity Bay is not. We'd like to have a place with a nice beach (and as I understand it, Puerto Vallarta doesn't have nice beaches), but it's not a requirement as long as the pool is nice.

Any suggestions on which place would be nicer? The prices I've found for both are about the same, but Roatan would be a bit more since it's not all-inclusive. Just looking for some tips and/or advice! Thanks in advance!!

I haven't been to both, but Roatan is the nicest place I've ever seen.

I've been to Roatan twice. It is remote and beautiful; the perfect place for a getaway. Certainly not populated and commercial like Mexico.

I actually went ahead and booked the trip to Roatan. We leave this Thursday. Pretty excited about it! It looks amazing there!

Staying in the West Bay area at the Infinity Bay Resort. It's not all-inclusive, but think we got a pretty good deal on it.

Do you just snorkel off the beach or do you go out on a boat? Any other reoommendations on what to do or places to eat/drink?

Wait and see what sort of beach you have at your hotel. If the beach is nice, no need to pay for a boat to snorkel.

kay's i'm looking at going there in Aug. who are you flying with? are you flying direct from Hou or hoping over to FL to get more options on flights?

i just started looking so haven't done all my homework yet, but it seems like they have very limited direct flights to roatan from hou....we were thinking we would have to stay 7 days since continental only flies direct there on Saturdays. this would be fine, but if there's another option that would allow us to do 5 or 6 days that may work out better for us.
anyone else have any info on this?

thanks!

We are flying on Continental. Looks like they only have one flight out and one back, but I think it's daily. And our flights are direct. We leave tomorrow and come back on Sunday. Used Continental Vacations to book the trip.

My girlfriend's father has a condo at Infinity Bay and we went in May. It is amazing. I like it because it isn't as touristy as Mexico. The West Bay has everything you need...a few bars, restuarants and beaches. There is a really nice restaurant at Bananarama dive resort that is amazing. I can't remember the name, but it is something pearl.

We went to the West End one night for dinner and drinks. It was ok but not worth the trip. Be careful when you are anywhere other than the West Bank. We had some friends who went in May and someone attempted to forcibly take one of the girls from one of the nicer bars in the West End.

My advice is to stay on the West Bay. Although Roatan is an island, it is not completely removed from the politics and issues of Honduras.
