It is the old Aladdin. I have not been back since they finished the changes, so I cannot vouch, but it is my favorite Strip casino due to my winnings there

Also, Westgate Resorts is building a new time-share behind it that will connect to the actual casino, so you may have to deal with construction noise.

Stayed there when it was the Aladdin. It was one of the best basic rooms that I have stayed in Vegas. The casino has been seriously upgraded since PH took over. The Pleasure Pit is awesome for the guys and I also liked the poker room. Would definitely stay there.

I stayed there for the first time this past May. I loved the room and the location. They have improved the casino tremendously since it was Aladdin.

Good gambling Thusday thru Saturday nights. Girls dealing in lingerie type stuff and most are smoking hot. I liked my time there.

Wife and I stayed there in November for a few days. Thought it was decent. The room was clean and pretty nice. Food at the restaurants wasn't the best but the breakfast buffet was okay. Lot of constructiion right around it. Forgot what a cesspool the strip was at night trying to walk to shows. We decided we will stay off the strip in more a resort type place next time and drive in for shows.

Just got back from Vegas today. We didn't stay at PH, but we walked through. Looked decent enough and is in a good location. The only downfall would be the amount of construction right across the street. They are building a huge convention center.

I saw PLanet Hollywood two weeks ago. It's so beautiful, classy, and the crowd is mostly young professionals. A great hotel.

If you are talking about the construction across the street of Las Vegas Blvd(the strip) then that is most definitely not a convention center. It is the largest privately funded project in the history of man @ $8.4 bil.

It is going to be ridiculous.....mainly luxury condos and residences, check it out www.citycenter.com

Who's doing the "private funding"?

I stayed at the P.H. in October. It was great. The rooms were completely redone and big. The service was great. I was there for two days and found I rarely had to leave to go to other casinos. I enjoyed the food, gambling and bars there very much.

Planet Hollywood looks much better than the old Aladdin. The Miracle Mile Shops have seen a dramatic improvement as well. Construction on City Center as well as the condo tower behind the hotel may cause an issue, don't know how much noise gets into the rooms.

Here is some info on the City Center Project. Plenty of Ags working on it.

- 4,004-room 61-story ARIA Resort & Casino (Cesar Pelli)
- 165,000-square-foot casino (Pelli)
- 400-room + 227 condos - Mandarin Oriental Hotel/Residences (Pedersen / Tihany)
- 400-room + 207 condos - The Harmon Hotel/Residences (Foster and Partners)
- 1543-unit Vdara Condo/Hotel tower (Rafael Viñoly)
- Twin, 337-unit luxury condo towers Veer (Helmut Jahn)
- 500,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space The Crystals Mall (Daniel Libeskind)
- $40 million worth of modern sculptures and installations by world famous artists
- 225,000 square feet of convention and meeting space
- 900,000 square feet for back-of-house operations
- 2,000-seat theater
- 70,000-square-foot spa
- 7,500-car parking garage
- Fire station
- People movers (trams)
- On-site power plant

CityCenter will have a 1/4-mile Las Vegas Strip frontage. The project's center will the 61-story ARIA Resort & Casino with 4,000-rooms, designed by world renowned architect Cesar Pelli. There will be plenty of glitz in the form of light shows projected against building facades. Reports from MGM MIRAGE state that a new Cirque du Soleil show, called Elvis, will premiere at the CityCenter Resort on opening day.

8,000 construction workers and 39 cranes will be on site at the peak of construction.
The project will create 12,000 new permanent positions when it opens.

CityCenter is expected to open phase-one in November of 2009 and is currently the single most expensive privately funded project in the western hemisphere. There are yet, no details on phase-two.

How in the world is the Jockey Club managing to hang around through all of this??

DallsAg:

8/11/06 Jockey Club's Renovation may be Funded by Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan is upholding their end of the bargain with the Jockey Club Timeshares. According to the Jockey Club, the Cosmopolitan has the option to remodel the exterior of the Jockey Club. Other improvements to the Jockey Club are a result of an agreement with Cosmopolitan, and include:

assigned parking in Cosmo's underground lot

elevators from the new garage to Jockey Club's lobby

elevators from the Jockey Club to the Cosmo's tennis courts

a new and relocated (to the north side) lobby

A new and relocated (to the north side) Porte-Cochère

a state-of-the-art fire and safety system throughout

north side landscaping

The folks at the Jockey Club are very happy with the improvements and do not refer to the Cosmopolitan as swallowing their property but rather embracing it. After all, the 14,000+ owners of the Jockey Club will now have a great casino resort right in their laps and will be able to stay indoors on their short walk to it.

I love Planet Hollywood.... Probably my favorite place to stay other then Hard Rock. Although honestly I have never stayed there when it was actually Planet Hollywood (Just several times when it was The Alladin) I walked through it a month ago and it was awesome so it has to even be better then it was. I can't believe they changed the whole interior like that. They had to have shut the whole casino/hotel down to do that kind of remodel.

And about that City Center..... It'll be interesting on the development of that thing being Travel is about to die down some and that thing is so expensive.

I'm sure that it will be finished, of course, but I bet they will be hurting for awhile. CNN Travel today said that Vegas is losing the LA weekend commute crowd right now.

Ya, isn't that the MGM "City" thing. It really blocked my view of the Strip from the Orleans when I was there a month or so ago. I'm a big MGM guy, but this looks like it may suck.Kavorkian may have bit off more than he can chew with this one.

Read that something like 17 Iron workers had died making it and there was talk of "STRIKE!"? Because they are bringing up the building all at the same time and the cranes are bouncing off each other.

Oh, but the Sands Corp guy..Ventian...is building a big center somewhere, but I think it'ds behind his other properties.

Niteside, not true on the 17 ironworkers. They have lost 3 or 4 men thus far. Unfortunately that is within projections for that scale of a project. No strike is imminent, unions and casinos are too much in bed together already.

Wynn has big plans for his current golf course. Venetian (Sheldon Addelson) seems to be concentrating on Macau, although definitely some major projects right now, just nothing to City Center scale. Boyd Gaming is under construction on a $5B project on the old Stardust site, called Echelon. It will be primarily hotel, 5,300 keys. They are working 24/7 trying to catch up to the City Center. Massive project planned for the old Frontier site, still a dream at this point but Israeli money is involved there. Harrah's is planning a major deal including a stadium, hoping for a NBA or NHL deal to happen. We'll see on that, although I wouldn't be surprised if the stadium went forward regardless. It is planned for just east of the Paris.

Humm...maybe it was 17 Iron workers killed overall in Vegas this year. Sorry, just sort of read a headline in the paper when I was there and didn't get much futher than that in the story and some complaining about "strikes". But I guess they do that every day.

Yes, the Wynn guys told us the last 2 times I was there that they planned to do the condo thing with the golf course, then the last time in Dec. when I was there they said it was being put off for several years, until they could build another that was convient for their guests.
Hate to see that thing go...it is just an awesome sight. Love to just sit in the room and watch people play, if nothing else.

Toured that new wing of the Venitian and well...it was sort of a "so what" moment for me. Big and beutiful, felt a bit like being in the City of OZ but, I still hate their casino (cealing too high)and I'm not sure who needs a whole shopping floor dedicated to just Handbags.

Good Lord, I must of counted 12 handbag stores all one right after the other in the new shopping wing. Nuts.

What is one of the middle to higher scale hotels on the strip that are considered smaller properties? While places like the MGM grand are nice, you have to hike a mile just to get out to the street. David Spade made a joke of this during the country music awards last week.
NITESIDE

gabby...everyone that hss stayed there that I know, tells me the Monti Carlo is a very nice and medium priced place. And it's about as central as you can get. As well as being an MGM which means good comps.

I have several friends who still swear by the Mirage and treasure island.

But, don't count yourself out of the "Big Boys" right now. Vegas is hurting a bit and you could get some awesome deals at Wynn and Venitian this summer.

Take advantage of a cheap summer stay and do a little gambling with them and at the least, esp. with Wynn your almost bound to get Casino rates from then on. Which puts them constantly in the price range of the more moderately priced Casinos.

i stayed at planet hollywood about a month ago and i loved it. i never went out to the pool much. it had a decent view but all the contruction there put somewhat of a damper on that.

the club there prevee? (spelling) was a lot of fun. we decided to split bottle service between 7 guys. we had to get 2 and it came out to about 150 bucks a person. they try to have some celebrity there everynight and the night we were there they had "shorty-lo". they also made it rain 5,000 dollars throughout the night.

fun sports book.

rooms were very nice and big.

ate at p.f. changs which was awesome and hit up karaoke a few times.

was a great casino to stay at for us. of course we were all 21-24 age range group.

Just got back from PH for New Years. Loved it. Got a nice upgrade. Location perfect regarding the strip both directions. Very quiet rooms. "People" watching is really nice. Buffet pretty good for the price. Liked the overall size of the hotel compared to the mega ones. Liked the easy access to the mega ones for shows and food.
