I figured it out!!!

So we traded Hirsch, Buckholz, and Taveras to the Rockies for Jennings. The Rockies think they got a great deal.. but dont look now, Taveras is sucking bad!

This was all part of the plan. Before we shipped Taveras off, Purpura had a talk with him. He told him to suck really bad in Colorado.. to the extent that they would just plain cut him. Then, the Astros would sweep in and pick him back up! And he also told him that while he had some down time, to learn how to play short stop.

Willy Taveras will be back and will be the starting shortstop for the Houston Astros!

I must not get the joke

Taveras is hitting over .300 and has an OBP of .375

It's all part of the plan. He is supposed to show some promise, and then crash and burn!
