Going to spring training in Arizona for the first time. Would love whatever recommendations/tips you may have. Best places to stay, eat. Tips on schedules, best places to watch practices and get autographs would be greatly appreciated.
Just me and my 14 year old son.

I take it you haven't made any reservations yet. Any teams you particularly want to see? I live in the east valley so I go out to the Cubs complex which is really cool. Also Salt River Fields and Tempe Stadium are close by. Other teams are in the west valley. If it were me I'd stay near the Scottsdale Quarter which has hotels, restaurants, etc. Pretty easy to get there from most of the facilities.

Bring some layers because once the sun goes down it cools quickly.

Here's a map.

Thanks. I'm from Dallas so want to see Rangers and Bobby Witt Jr in Surprise. But love the Cubs and want to see the Dodgers.

I can't really help you out that direction but Wrigleyville in Mesa is a cool set up. Easy to get to off the 202.

Sounds like a great dad and son trip.

Thanks for the help. We are planning around March 12-15. Why do the Cubs and Dodgers not play those days? Will they be around to watch practices?

I think they're opening the regular season in Japan (which I hate) so they're heading over there.

Thanks JJA - I am a Cubs fan, so if they are in Japan, would Wrigleyville still be worth a trip from Surprise?
Which Arizona Spring Training Fields are your favorites?

Since I live east I've only been to Sloan, Hohokam, Tempe Diablo, Scottsdale, and Salt River Fields. It's a long haul out to Surprise so I haven't been to the Rangers/Royals area.

I suspect Wrigleyville will have players not on the travel roster and minor leaguers when you're here. As the time gets closer you could probably check on the Cubs website and get some more intel. The Arizona fall league is after the MLB season and a good time to go. We go watch some games for cheap. We went to Salt River Fields last weekend to the college tournament as well. The Aggies it looks like could use some of this weather this weekend. Supposed to be 80's pushing to 90 maybe the first part of next week.

As I said earlier though bring layers because even when it's 80 this time of year it cools way down after dark.

We went a couple of years ago with a friend who is a big Cubs fan. Stayed at Talking Stick Resort so we had gambling and baseball.

If you go to Sloan Park you can go to Tempe Marketplace and ride the free trolley.

Did the A's draw more attendance in Arizona than Oakland these past few years?
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.
