I'm sure it will be either Bogar or Maddux, and I'm guessing Bogar. I've been in the dump Wash and promote Maddux camp for a while now though. I think this is the offseason that Maddux becomes a manager, but I'm thinking it will be elsewhere.

Yeah, someone in the ticket the other day was talking about how successful he's been at every level. He basically wins his conf and gets manger of the year at pretty much every stop. He's also got some big names that swear by him like Larussa and joe maddon thinks highly of him.

Hmmm. They are interviewing half the baseball world. Bogar interviewing with AZ. Still think it will be Bogar, but not the slam dunk I thought it would be.

According to Newberg, Maddux does want to stay with the team. I wonder if Bogar will keep him, or have the option to bring in his own guys. I say Bogar, because I guess I expect him to get the job.

I would think Maddux is staying for sure. Pitching coach is more of an organizational vs manager decision, especially in a case where your manager is going to be a rookie. I'm sure part of the interview process was feeling out whether the candidate could fit with the retained staff like Maddux. I'd imagine Magadan is here too, although I wish they'd sack him.

Magadan needs to be gone...his philosophy hadn't worked the last two years...case in point...Elvis should be a .300 hitter at his stage in his career...yet he's still around the .260 to .286 range...with no gap to gap power

If there's one guy I'd like to keep it's Frank Zappa...er...Mike Maddux! I know a lot of it was Nolan's philosophy, but Maddux worked with these guys day in and day out. Our pitching was Shiet for 35+ years until he came to the franchise.

I don't think so. I think Ryan was hired as President just before the 2008 season and Maddux was hired just after the 2008 season.

And yes, they can fire the rest, from base coaches to hitting, but I'm hoping they hang onto Maddux. This franchise spent too many years wandering in the desert with its pitching staff, and he's made a clear mark with sustained improvement. I think Nolan got too much credit for the staff's improvement.

Gotcha. I looked at Maddux's wikipedia, but it wasn't clear about when he started. Seems like he's been here longer than that.

Maddux has indicated he wants to stay. He's great pitching coach, I have a hard time seeing whoever they choose not being interested in keeping him.

Wow. Stunned it isn't Bogar.

But Banister does seem like a great candidate, and Clint Hurdle's high recommendation carries some weight with me - and apparently the Rangers front office.

Here's what alone Star Ball said about him:

Banister, 49, has been the bench coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates the past four years. Banister, Tim Bogar, and Kevin Cash were the final three candidates for the Rangers' job, and Banister was highly recommended by Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle, who was the Rangers' hitting coach in 2010, and who has ties to Jon Daniels and Thad Levine dating back to their days in Colorado.

I didn't care who it was... Glad they've decided.

I'll file in behind the decision and blindly talk about how great he is, how great he has done and overwhelmingly support him without objection.
